ANCHORAGE, Alaska – President Donald Trump is projected to win the state of Alaska, according to The Associated Press.Winning the state gives Trump three additional electoral votes, bringing him to a total of 217, still far behind Joe Biden. The AP still projects Biden will win the presidency, since he is on track to finish with at least 290 electoral votes. A candidate needs 270 to win. With the contest in Alaska called, the only two states that remain up in the air in the presidential race are Georgia and North Carolina, based on AP projections. Regardless of which way they sway, it likely won’t alter who takes the White House.Along with the presidency being called, the AP also projects that Alaska’s Republican senator, Dan Sullivan, will win reelection to the U.S. Senate.Sullivan's win brings to the GOP to 50 seats in the Senate, while the Democrats have 48. The Senate majority will all come down to who wins the two runoff races in Georgia. Residents in the state will vote on Jan. 5.Additionally, the AP projects Republican Don Young will win reelection to U.S. House in Alaska's at-large congressional district. 1136

ARVADA, Co. — The Robinson home is now a cafeteria, a classroom and a gym.The family’s six children are in five different grade levels, spanning from kindergarten to high school. At the beginning of the school year, some of the kids did in-person learning for part of the week.“I was very grateful when they were able to go to school,” said the mother of six, Alexi Robinson. With COVID-19 cases spiking this winter, all six are indefinitely back to remote learning. The decision dropped a heavyweight on Robinson.“I was like, ‘Close the restaurants, close the mall, close everything. Just please let's keep the kids in school,’ because it's, it's just so hard. It's so hard and so frustrating. I just want to, just break down and cry,” said the mother.Robinson and her husband both work full-time to support their family. “I leave before they're awake for the day. My husband is gone sunup to sundown every day. He travels a lot out of town as well,” said Robinson.Robinson says her older kids have been taking on the teaching role while she and her husband work.“I couldn't do it without them, but then I don't want them to suffer either. They get reprimanded by their teachers, you know, if they're late or if they leave for a second or whatever else and so it's hard,” said Robinson.Riker, a freshman in high school, and Halle, a sixth-grader, said they’re struggling in their own classes just to help their siblings.“You just can't focus,” said Riker. “Like sometimes, you're on remote by yourself, and you still can't focus. But you know with the kids around, it's noisy. It's just hard. It's really hard.”They said being both a teacher and a student is taking a serious mental toll.“Because they're so little, they don't understand when we need to work,” said Halle.“I’m used to being kind of like the oldest, and you know, the babysitter, but this is like a whole other level, just like stress and it’s just getting, just difficult,” said Riker. It’s especially tough because the two youngest children are in special education for speech therapy.“It’s harder for them to stay caught up without that extra help of the live teachers, so they could they all could potentially fall behind,” said Alexi.Falling behind is a concern for families across the country. Teachers like Lindsay Datko are fighting to help.“If they miss those developmental windows, it will take them years to overcome habits that were poorly formed for the average student. So, we will see the effects of this for years to come if we don't act now,” Datko explained.Datko is tutoring students who are doing remote learning, and she’s been working with local leaders for months to give families a chance to choose whether in person or remote learning works best for their students.“The whole spectrum is struggling, and we can do something. I know that there are teachers who are truly fearful for different reasons, and we respect that. We are pushing for the choice," she said.Datko said there are countless teachers willing to go back to school in her district, and she hopes leaders will acknowledge those educators and families wanting to go back to school. The Robinsons are hoping the new year will bring them the choice to send their children to school.“I know that they do a lot better in school,” said Alexi. “I hope that we can get through it.” 3336

As has been stated by numerous legal scholars, I have the absolute right to PARDON myself, but why would I do that when I have done nothing wrong? In the meantime, the never ending Witch Hunt, led by 13 very Angry and Conflicted Democrats (& others) continues into the mid-terms!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 4, 2018 346

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The Los Angeles Dodgers had a walk in the park to start the National League Division Series. The Dodgers had already drawn nine walks before Mookie Betts got their first hit the sixth inning. They went ahead to stay on Corey Seager’s sacrifice fly right after that in a 5-1 win over the NL West rival San Diego Padres. Game 2 in the best-of-five series is Wednesday night. The Dodgers walked 10 times, matching the NLDS record for a nine-inning game. San Diego used nine pitchers for the third time in four postseason games. 556

Amid the pandemic, food banks are on average serving 60% more families than a year ago, according to a recent analysis by Feeding America. The analysis found that 80% of food banks in the Feeding America network have seen an increase in demand amid the pandemic.Despite this jump in demand, the organization says that food banks have “become accustomed” to increased demand for services. Feeding America’s analysis says that 40% of those going to food banks this year are doing so for the first time.Compounding issues for many families, food prices have jumped in the last year, according to USDA analysis. According to the USDA, the average cost of food prepared at home has increased 4% from October 2019 through October 2020. In the last 20 years, the average increase of food prices per year is 2%.The increase in prices has been most pronounced in meat, poultry and dairy. From October 2019 through October 2020, meat prices jumped 6.6%. Previously, meat prices generally increased 3% a year. The issue of increased prices was something that Feeding America leaders addressed last month as lawmakers have failed to come to an agreement on a new stimulus plan.“With food prices increasing at the fastest rate in 50 years and predictions that 1 in 4 children could face hunger this year, a 15 percent increase to the maximum SNAP benefit is the most effective way to meet the moment,” Kate Leone, Chief government relations officer at Feeding America, wrote. “Boosting SNAP benefits will provide families more resources to purchase the food they need through purchases at local grocers and businesses, which will stimulate economies across the country.“With the nation’s public health and economic crises continuing without an end in sight, our economy and families are being pushed to the very brink. We need our government to invest in the hunger-relief measures today because families struggling with hunger need it now.”Feeding America said that Americans can help by volunteering at their local food bank or donating to their local food bank or Feeding America’s COVID-19 Response Fund. Feeding America said that 60% of food banks in its network are in need of volunteers. 2188
