(KGTV) - New restrictions in place at the border designed to slow the spread of COVID-19 are also drastically slowing traffic.Some commuters reported waiting seven, eight, nine hours trying to cross into San Ysidro from Mexico over the weekend.A woman in her late 80's died Sunday while waiting in a car with family to cross into San Ysidro, according to reporting partner Televisa.Emilio Tamez owns three restaurants in the South Bay, including one in San Ysidro. Many of his employees live in Tijuana."They're just hurting more businesses, and they're hurting the people who are holding the economy right now," said Tamez.The U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency started implementing the new measures Friday. They're designed to discourage people from traveling to Mexico for non-essential travel."You've got this, history of many decades of people going across for work purposes or for business purposes things that have nothing to do with leisure or tourism, these are people whose livelihood depends on the border, so you're affecting that large group of people," said Gustavo De La Fuente, executive director of the Smart Border Coalition.De La Fuente said he understands the move to an extent."In some cases, people should stay home, if you want to go into Ensenada or Rosarito for tourism purposes, right now is not the best time to do it," said De La Fuente.A spokesman with CBP sent 10News a statement, that reads in part:"According to the U.S Customs and Border Protection, a recent survey of more than 100,000 travelers on the southwest border found that the vast majority of cross-border travel by U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents is for purposes that are not deemed essential. To respond to the ongoing public health crisis and protect local southwest border communities, CBP is taking measures to discourage non-essential travel to and from Mexico to limit the spread of COVID-19 in the United States. SAN YSIDRO (CNS) - A body was found Wednesday morning near a San Ysidro intersection, police said.Dispatchers received a report of the body around 3:30 a.m. near the intersection of Smythe Avenue and Sunset Lane, San Diego police Officer Dino Delimitros said.No details about the victim were immediately available.The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office was called to the scene to take custody of the body for autopsy and identification purposes.Homicide detectives were investigating the circumstances leading up to the death. 542

(CNS) - Los Angeles County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl was spotted dining outdoors at a restaurant in Santa Monica hours after voting to uphold a ban on outdoor dining due to a surge in COVID-19 cases, it was reported Monday.Kuehl had dinner at Il Forno Trattoria on Tuesday, soon after voting to uphold the county's new restrictions that were announced two days before, according to Fox11, which said it received multiple tips. During the board meeting, Kuehl called outdoor dining "a most dangerous situation."A representative for Kuehl told Fox11, "She did dine al fresco at Il Forno on the very last day it was permissible. (KGTV) — Hundreds gathered in Santee on Saturday to call for justice for women of color.A flyer for the march advertised "promoting black and brown unity" and justice for Breonna Taylor and Vanessa Guillén.Breonna Taylor was an EMT who was shot and killed during a no-knock warrant against her boyfriend at her home in March. No drugs were found in her apartment.Vanessa Guillén was a 20-year-old Army specialist who disappeared in April from Fort Hood in Texas. Remains believed to be hers were found near the Army post in July, sparking protests over the military's handling of sexual harassment allegations.A section of Mission Gorge Rd. was blocked off by police for the planned protest. Counter-demonstrators also assembled in the area.One of the demonstration's organizers told ABC 10News that they hope their calls for racial justice are heard by Santee's City Council leaders."Santee has its things, it's known as being racist, and I'm here to change that.
