(KGTV) — City officials are investigating an incident caught on video between an African American man and a white La Mesa Police officer that led to the officer being placed on leave.The video, posted to Facebook this week, shows the incident that occurred at the Grossmont Trolley Station on Fletcher Parkway. The city said the footage appears to "indicate that a LMPD officer detained an African American male, and in the process, the LMPD officer administered physical contact."The video footage starts after an altercation had already begun between Amaurie Johnson and the police officer. It then shows the escalation and Johnson being placed in handcuffs. Johnson is told that he's being charged with assaulting an officer and led to a police vehicle.RELATED: La Mesa officer in arrest video placed on leave, pending investigation“For that situation to escalate the way it did, and for the cop, you know, to stand firm in his beliefs that I should be detained or taken in with no prior evidence or reasoning, I think that should be seen by the people,” Johnson said in an interview with 10News.He said he was waiting for his friend at the trolley stop, near a building where that friend lives.Johnson said an officer started questioning him and he gave him the information that he wanted.The nearly six-minute video shows a heated verbal exchange between Johnson and the officer. It also shows the officer forcefully push Johnson into a sitting position onto a nearby bench.Johnson told 10News at no point did he resist or assault anyone."I feel as though people that look like me, um, feel the same way I do and we're tired of it. We're tired of having to deal with stuff like that,” he said.Johnson said he was cited with assaulting an officer and resisting arrest.The La Mesa Police Department did not respond to our request for information about the citations. The department also didn’t respond to our request for the officer’s body camera video or release the name of the officer involved in the incident.On Thursday, the La Mesa Police Department issued a statement, saying they are "aware of a video circulating on social media depicting an interaction between a police officer and a citizen at the Grossmont Trolley Station yesterday. We immediately began a review of the incident to find out what happened. The La Mesa Police Department takes all allegations of misconduct very seriously and asks that any member of the public with information or video regarding this incident contact us at (619) 667-1400."The city says it has started a special investigation into the incident and that the officer involved has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. 3147

(KGTV) — It took some months after opening for Disneyland to finally make good on its promise of living out your Star Wars dreams, but boy did it deliver."Rise of the Resistance" opens on Friday, Jan. 17 at the park's "Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge" land with one mission: Put riders in the middle of a galaxy far, far away. While not without a few slower moments, the attraction brings a new standard to theme park rides.While Galaxy's Edge has provided a decent amount of "Star Wars" enjoyment, there has been something missing. ROTR rises above expectations, using four ride systems to deliver that feeling fans have craved since the park's "Star Wars" expansion opened last summer. [Spoilers ahead]It's thanks to the cast members throughout the ride (from the First Order officers shooing "sympathizers" to Resistance fighters saving the day) and well-timed theatrical moments that "Rise of the Resistance" excels.(The mystery technology throughout the ride gives plenty of "oohs" and "aahhs" as well.)Riders may get restless at times they are waiting to enter their transports, but Disney's Imagineers have designed a detail-rich environment for them to take in until the action begins.RELATED: California Adventure's 'Avengers Campus' set for summer 2020 openingThe ride opens with Resistance recruits receiving their orders from BB-8 and Rey in a briefing room, before they're hurled into space on a transport ship on a secret mission with ace X-Wing pilot Poe Dameron by their side.But, as with all Star Wars films, the bad guys aren't too far behind. A calm transport ride turns bumpy after the First Order ambushes the space vessel and takes it — and its riders — hostage on a Star Destroyer. First Order cast members, with emotionless glares, order riders to wait in their cell where they'll be interrogated.Kylo Ren and General Hux stand tall above the cell issuing threats (definitely doesn't feel threatening, though), before the Resistance breaks in to free riders.That's when the fun begins, as riders travel on trackless cars through the Destroyer to escape and return to Batuu.RELATED: Disneyland tickets are on sale for as low as right nowDisney Imagineers are far less likely to divulge their magic tricks during a First Order interrogation, but the sight of blaster lasers, massive AT-ATs firing at riders, a lightsaber piercing through steel, and a Tower of Terror-style drop back home scream technological sophistication.Disneyland has set a new standard for a tent-pole attraction. A 2-month-old baby who died of a birth defect had also contracted COVID-19.According to a report from the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner, the baby was born with gastroschisis — a birth defect where a baby is born with intestines located outside the body.The medical examiner's report notes that the baby was born at 37 weeks with the defect. On Sept. 8, after going home from a surgery, the child developed vomiting and diarrhea and was diagnosed with COVID-19.He was pronounced deceased at a hospital after developing acute respiratory symptoms. According to the report, COVID-19 caused the baby's recent issues.News of the child's death broke last Wednesday in an interview with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) Chief Medical Executive Dr. Joneigh Khaldun. Khaldun warned that children are not immune to the virus. They still can — and are likely to — pass it on to others.Across the U.S., about 800 children have been diagnosed with Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C), a disease associated with COVID-19. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), MIS-C is a condition where different body parts can become inflamed, including the heart, lungs, kidneys, brain, skin, eyes, or gastrointestinal organs.DHSS says that a person's death is considered to be "COVID-19-associated" if a person has tested positive for the virus, died of natural causes and one of the following is true:The death is within 30 days of onset of COVID-19.If the death is more than 30 days from onset, the certifying physician identifies COVID-19 as a contributing factor to death.Editor's note: This story has been updated with more information regarding the child's cause of death. (KGTV) — Universal Pictures has decided not to release its upcoming movie, "The Hunt," following two recent mass shootings and backlash over its plot.The R-rated film, starring Hilary Swank, Betty Gilpin and Emma Roberts, depicts a group of wealthy elites hunting humans for sport. Last week, Universal faced backlash for airing ads for the film following recent mass shootings in Texas, California, and Ohio that left more than 30 people dead.The film's website now shows a statement from Universal, reading: "While Universal Pictures had already paused the marketing campaign for the hunt, after thoughtful consideration, the studio has decided to cancel our plans to release the film. We stand by our filmmakers and will continue to distribute films in partnership with bold and visionary creators, like those associated with this satirical social thriller, but we understand that now is not the right time to release this film."Before the film's pending release, "The Hunt" had already received its share of criticism.Though he didn't name the film directly, a day prior the Universal's decision President Trump weighed in on Twitter, saying, "Liberal Hollywood is racist at the highest level, and with great anger and hate." 1237
