BEIJING, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo said on Sunday that China and the United States should help ease the tensions on the Korean Peninsula and facilitate dialogues. In a phone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton about the recent development on the Korean Peninsula, Dai said that China is deeply concerned with the dynamics in the area.Beijing holds that the immediate priority is to try to calm the current situation and reject any move that might escalate the tensions, he added. At the critical moment, Dai said, China and the United States should actively play a constructive role and take concerted efforts to mitigate the situation as soon as possible and safeguard peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula. The starting point of all Chinese efforts is to maintain the peninsula's peace and stability, he said, adding that all relevant parties should make joint efforts to secure an early resumption of negotiations and seek solutions via dialogues.Clinton, for her part, said that Washington and Beijing share common interests in maintaining the Korean Peninsula's stability and that cooperation is of pivotal significance. The United States is willing to work together with China to keep peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula, she added. The two sides also agreed to maintain close contact on the issue. An exchange of artillery fire between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and South Korea last week killed four people, and aroused the concerns of the international community.

BEIJING, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) - China's consumer price index (CPI) is expected to rise by slightly higher than the government's target of 3 percent this year, Zhang Ping, head of the National Development and Reform Commission, said Tuesday.Besides upward pressure on commodities prices due to natural disasters and imported inflation, loose domestic liquidity and speculation factors have also contributed to the prices hikes, Zhang said at a coal industry conference, adding that the government is paying close attention to domestic commodities prices, especially farm produce prices.Citizens shop at a supermarket in Haikou, capital of south China's Hainan Province, on Aug. 11, 2010.Zhang also said that edible oil is plentiful, though cotton and vegetables are projected to be in short supply during the rest of the year.Additionally, food prices, which account for one-third of weight in calculating the CPI in China, climbed 8 percent in September, pushing the CPI to reach a 23-month high of 3.6 percent in September.

BEIJING, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Public Security (MPS) on Sunday ordered traffic police nationwide to prepare for possible traffic disruptions caused by a lingering cold snap. The cold weather that has stopped traffic on national highways in several central and southern provinces since New Year's Day is likely to last ten more days.At a national meeting on coping with traffic disruptions during the cold snap, vice public security minister Huang Ming said local traffic police should be prepared to control and solve traffic problems that icy weather and sleet might cause.Further, local traffic police should make realistic emergency plans, prepare emergency supplies and equipment for de-icing and removing snow, and quickly handle traffic accidents, he said.He added that road closures should be the last choice in handling poor road conditions caused by freezing weather. Additionally, local traffic police should take other measures such as temporarily opening roads to ensure traffic flows. The recent inclement weather is a reminder of the disastrous freezing winter at the beginning of 2008, which stopped traffic, damaged power grids, and disrupted lives of millions in southern China. However, experts believe China is unlikely to suffer similar conditions this winter because of inadequate moisture.

BEIJING, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese credit rating firm Dagong Global Credit Rating assessed the sovereign credit rating of Ireland at BBB in its third sovereign or regional credit rating report released Monday.Dagong's credit rating of Ireland is lower than that given by Moody's, Standard and Poor's and Fitch."Dagong made its assessment based on factors such as Ireland's increasing debt level, the administrative capability of its government, economic and financial strength," Dagong Global said.Dagong Global's announcement follows the proposed 85-billion-euro bailout of debt-hit Ireland by the European Union and the International Monetary Fund.Dagong's report also rated four other nations - Finland, Uruguay, Kenya and Sudan. In terms of domestic currency-denominated debt, Finland received the firm's top AAA rating, but with a negative outlook.Uruguay was rated BB-plus while Kenya received a B rating.Sudan was rated C, the nation's first sovereign credit rating.Dagong Global uses a three-level assessment system, with each level containing three sub-levels. For example, AAA, AA and A.The rating agency published sovereign credit ratings in two earlier reports. One on July 11 rated 50 countries. The second on October 20 rated nine countries and regions.Founded in 1994, Dagong Global is a pioneer in the rating of industry, region and sovereign debt. It is also a leading credit rating firm for corporate bonds, financial bonds and structured debt.

BEIJING, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Commerce (MOC) Friday welcomed ruling from the World Trade Organization (WTO) that the European Union (EU) anti-dumping duties on Chinese screws and bolts were discriminatory and are in violation of global commerce rules. For a long time, the EU has been requiring Chinese exporters to prove they meet with the "single duty" requirements when they are responding to anti-dumping cases, bringing a heavy burden and unfair treatment to Chinese companies, said an official with the MOC.In particular the WTO ruled the EU's single duty requirements and practices are discriminatory and violated WTO rules.China urged the EU to respect the WTO ruling and rid itself of codes or practices that go against WTO rules and treat Chinese exporters fairly to ensure normal trade between China and the EU, the official said.At the beginning of 2009, the EU decided to impose anti-dumping duties of up to 87 percent for the next five years on fasteners imported from China. The WTO set up an expert panel on Oct. 23, 2009 after China initiated the WTO case on July 31, 2009, saying anti-dumping measures taken by the EU against the import of Chinese steel fasteners violated WTO trade rules.
