The news of dogs?left tied up, abandoned by owners in Palm Beach County to fend for themselves during Hurricane Irma, disturbed many of you, and us.The question .. will Palm Beach County hold those pet owners accountable?  It's not something the animals asked for, to be abandoned by their families, for a storm. "Absolutely unacceptable. People need to be responsible pet owners in this community," says State Attorney Dave Aronberg."The animals should be a valued part of your family and they should be a part of your plan," says Animal Care and Control Capt. Dave Walesky. More than 50 dogs and 15 cats were surrendered to Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control. Around 38 other dogs, left to fend for themselves, mostly in the Glades area.  "Many of them were loose inside fenced yards, some were loose in the community where they just got turned loose or some were tied and left in small cages," says Walesky. "One of the dogs was left tied to a structure with a bowl of water and a bunch of bananas." It's not just sad, it's a crime. "And there is no excuse for leaving your pet behind to die. We are going to hold accountable those who we can prove left their dogs behind in the storm," says Aronberg.   1261

The long-running TV show “Cops” is reportedly being pulled from the airwaves amid calls for police reforms throughout the United States.Variety was first to report the news. Paramount Networks has not confirmed the announcement to Scripps.Earlier this week, Cops opted to not air its new episode. Days before, similar police show “Live PD” decided not to run its two live episodes. Live PD has been one of the most-watched TV shows on Fridays and Saturdays since its 2016 debut. Following reports of Cops' demise, Live PD host Dan Abrams reassured fans of the show that Live PD would remain on A&E."All of us associated with the show are as committed to it as ever. The National Basketball Association postponed Wednesday's season opener against the Houston Rockets and Oklahoma City Thunder due to the Rockets not having enough players to play due to COVID-19.The league said that three Rockets players had COVID-19 tests come back that were positive or inconclusive. After contact tracing, the four Rockets players were quarantined.The league also announced that Rockets superstar James Harden would be unavailable due to a violation of the Health and Safety Protocols.According to ESPN, the league was investigating whether or not Harden had violated the league's COVID-19 protocols when a video circulated online of him partying maskless at a club."All other Rockets players were tested again today, and all returned negative results," the league said.According to the league, eight players have to be available for a game to take place. 883

The Indianapolis 500 will be held without fans in attendance on Aug. 23 due to escalating concerns over the coronavirus pandemic in Marion County, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway announced Tuesday.It will mark the first time in the 109-year history of the Indy 500 that it will be run in front of empty stands at the 2.5-mile oval track.“As dedicated as we were to running the race this year with 25 percent attendance at our large outdoor facility, even with meaningful and careful precautions implemented by the city and state, the COVID-19 trends in Marion County and Indiana have worsened," a news release from IMS said.First held in 1911, the Indianapolis 500 is the largest single-day sporting event in the world with approximately 350,000 people annually packing the track's grandstands and infield to watch "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing." Running the race without fans prevents the seventh cancellation in Indy 500 history. The race was not held in 1917-18 during World War I, and from 1942-45 during World War II.In late March, IMS leaders rescheduled the race from May 24 to Aug. 23. Officials said on June 26 that Indy 500 attendance would be limited to no more than 50%.That number was further decreased on July 22 when plans were scaled back to host the race at 25% capacity. Face coverings would be required, and the Speedway released an 88-page health and safety plan that provided guidelines and protocols for how the race would be run in 2020.Even at 25% capacity, the race would have been the largest event held in the United States since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic.IndyCar and IMS owner Roger Penske previously said he wouldn't run the race without fans, but the realities of the pandemic prevailed.“We need to be safe and smart about this,” Penske told the Associated Press. “Obviously we want full attendance, but we don’t want to jeopardize the health and safety of our fans and the community.
