WINNEBAGO COUNTY, Wis. -- A man walked from an Indianapolis suburb to Wisconsin -- a 351-mile journey -- to have sex with a person he believed was the 14-year-old girl he had been talking to on Facebook, prosecutors said.Instead, 32-year-old Tommy Lee Jenkins had been talking to a Winnebago County Sheriff's deputy working with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, a statement from the US Attorney's Office in the Eastern District of Wisconsin said.He is charged with using a computer to attempt to persuade, induce or entice a minor to engage in unlawful sexual activity, the office said, and faces 10 years to life in prison if convicted.CNN has reached out to Jenkins' attorney, a federal defender, and has not received a response."Our nation faces an epidemic of child sexual abuse, with the Internet making it too easy for predators to communicate with children across the country," United States Attorney Matthew D. Krueger said in a statement. "The Justice Department is committed to working with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to prosecute child sexual abuse aggressively."The law enforcement officer was posing as a girl named "Kylee" who lived in Neenah, Wisconsin, with her mother, the attorney's office said.Jenkins accepted a friend request from Kylee's profile and soon began engaging in sexual conversations with her, asking her if she's had sex and requesting explicit pictures, a criminal complaint alleges. In early October, Jenkins began asking the girl if she wanted him to come to Wisconsin. When she said yes, he later told her he had begun walking from Whitestown, Indiana, to where she was."I will tell you when i get to neenah 108 hours by walking," he said, according to the complaint.Throughout his journey, Jenkins sent pictures of areas he passed, including photos of exit signs and selfies, the complaint said.On October 10, he said he had made it to the state and that someone had bought him a bus ticket to get to the girl's town.Authorities arrested Jenkins when he arrived, the attorney's office said.Jenkins is scheduled to appear in federal court on October 23. 2141

Two sisters, ages 5 and 8, were found safe today after being lost in California woods for nearly two days.“1.4 miles away from their house and this was rugged territory. This is an extreme environment, and how they were out there for 44 hours is pretty amazing,” said William Honsal with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office during a press conference Monday.Police say the girls’ outdoor survival training with 4-H, the largest youth development organization in the U.S., may have helped them. “There are basic concepts that if we really understand, those basic concepts can take us quite a ways,” says Jessica Krebs, a survival instructor with SERE training.SERE—which stands for Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape—is commonly used in training the military. One of the first survival lessons Krebs teaches is to make yourself be seen. It was reported the young sisters lost their voices while yelling for help. The girls lost their voices yelling for help. “It's really good that these girls felt secure enough and had good, good parenting to say, ‘Yes, I can be loud and I’m going to let people know I need help,’” Krebs says. According to reports, the girls survived by hiding in a huckleberry bush and drinking water from its leaves. When it comes to survival, Krebs says accessing water is far more important than accessing food. Krebs also says to use dead airspace to regulate body temperature.“When we need to stay thermally regulated, we need to not get too hot or too cold. Creating dead air space around her body is what's essential,” she says. “That's going to create the insulation that we need.” The girls were dehydrated and cold, but first responders say they are in good spirits and will be fine. 1732

Two Transportation Security Administration officers have been placed on leave after a racist display was found inside a TSA workstation at Miami International Airport.Three TSA officers discovered two stuffed gorillas tied together and hanging with a noose on July 21, according to four TSA employees with knowledge of the situation and a picture obtained by CNN.A TSA employee with knowledge of the situation told CNN the display was hanging from a "pole right in the center of the TSA workstation located underneath the airport where passengers' checked luggage is screened before being placed on aircraft."The three officers notified their manager, but according to an employee with knowledge of the situation, the manager "tried to downplay the noose and gorilla display, saying it wasn't racist, it was just a joke." The manager's reaction further upset the three officers, the TSA employee said.According to an internal email obtained by CNN, the incident prompted the agency to launch an internal investigation, and two officers have since been placed on leave.A veteran Miami TSA officer who asked that his name not be used for fear of retaliation said he was upset about the incident, which he says has many of Miami International Airport's black and Hispanic TSA officers distraught."The mood now at the airport is people are upset this hasn't been properly taken care of yet. We want everybody held accountable for what they have done," the officer said.In a statement, the TSA said the display was immediately removed once reported and that an investigation was launched into who was responsible for the "unacceptable behavior.""TSA does not tolerate racist or offensive behavior and those found responsible will be held accountable for their actions," Jenny Burke, a spokeswoman for the agency, said in a statement. "Two TSA officers have been placed on administrative leave while the investigation is ongoing."In the internal email obtained by CNN that was sent six days after the incident, TSA's acting deputy administrator Patricia Cogswell writes to other high-ranking TSA officials that "given the number of emails and such coming in to HQ about the MIA situation, please pull together a message for SO (senior officers) to issue, and think about other information that should go out to all offices."After deliberations about the best way to communicate with the workforce about the incident, executive assistant administrator for security operations Darby Lajoye sent an email saying, "We've been made aware of an extremely troubling event in Miami this week involving a racially charged, disturbing display that cuts at the very core of who we are and what we stand for as an agency."The email goes on to say, "TSA has zero tolerance for acts like this. We have already ordered an independent investigation and all individuals potentially involved have been placed on Administrative leave while the investigation is underway."The emails did not name the individuals involved. 3007
