AURORA, Colo. -- Just as hundreds of restaurants are being forced to close down indoor dining, yet again, In-N-Out Burger made its debut in Colorado on Friday.Hundreds waited in line for hours to get a burger from the California-based fast-food chain.“It’s just a journey today,” said Charly, who came to relieve her dad who waited for three hours, but then had to go to work without making it to the front of the line.“Three or four hours wasn’t unexpected,” said Bob Fischer. “So, it’s definitely worth the wait.”Whether it was worth the wait depends on who you asked. But is it worth it? “No,” said Charly. “I don’t even eat beef. I’m just here for (my sister) and my dad.”In-N-Out’s arrival in Colorado comes at the most ill-timed or opportune moment, depending on your perspective.“I ordered about five cheeseburgers and five animal fries,” said one In-N-Out fan who did not wish to be identified. “It’s all about the uniqueness of the secret menu,” Fischer said.“I grew up in California, so we were always eating it,” said Maddie Duncan.Just around the corner, at the mom-and-pop NGL Burgers, owner Jesus Pulido is preparing to close to indoor dining yet again.“Tomorrow it’s back to take-out only or I can put some tables outside,” Pulido said. After 16 years in business in Aurora, Pulido, who’s also from California, certainly has his fans, too.“The food speaks for itself,” said an NGL regular named Zeke.“I grew up in L.A. There’s char-broiled burger places everywhere,” said Juan Lopez. “And this is exactly the same way.”Lopez says Pulido’s prices are right on the money.“If you’re going to let me pick for lunch, I’m going to come here because this is a better deal,” Lopez said. The question is – what kind of dent will In-N-Out, coupled with another COVID-19 shutdown put in Pulido’s business. He, for one, believes he will survive.“In-N-Out, that’s going to hurt me a little bit, you know? But I have my own customers,” Pulido said. “They want to go over there, whatever.”“To me – it’s important to keep these guys going,” Lopez said. “They know me so when I come here, you get the feeling of family and community.”This article was written by Russell Haythorn for KMGH. 2202

A video posted by a Twitter user Thursday night shows a car driving into a crowd of protesters in Times Square Thursday evening. BREAKING: Here’s the view from the Times Square camera of the moment a vehicle drove through Black Lives Matter demonstrators.@PIX11News pic.twitter.com/XeRmYpagRd— Cristian Benavides (@cbenavidesTV) September 4, 2020 The video shows marchers and people on bicycles in the streets outside Times Square when what appears to be a Ford drives into the crowd. A Twitter account providing updates on protests going on around the city said that the protest was asking for justice for Daniel Prude, a Black man who died March 30 after he was taken off life support, seven days after the encounter with police in Rochester. His death received no public attention until Wednesday, when his family released police body camera video they obtained. Prude was handcuffed, hooded and pinned down by police.Seven officers involved in the incident were suspended Thursday by Rochester Mayor Lovely Ann Warren. The incident caught the attention of State Sen. Brad Hoylman, who represents Manhattan. This is incredibly disturbing. The NYPD tweeted out that it was investigating and said that the car was not an NYPD vehicle. There is an ongoing investigation into an incident in Times Square involving a black Taurus sedan. You can only imagine the amount of times I thought about writing this. The way I would write it, how I would feel thereafter. Well, not entirely sure why now is the right time, and what it is that feels exciting and liberating for me to talk. I cannot explain it. Many of you wonder what happened to me, where did I disappear to and why. A journalist contacted me, he found a way to reach me and I told him everything this past summer. He was kind and it felt so amazing to finally speak. The truth is, and please trust me I am ok and safe now, I was raped and drugged and held captive over some days. Of course I survived. The recovery took time. There’s no light way to say it. But I can tell you in the last decade, the thousands and thousands of days I committed to wanting to feel the sunshine in my heart again, the sun does now shine. You wonder why I did not choose to use my voice to express my pain? I did not want to show the world the sadness in my eyes. I asked myself, how can I sing from the heart if it is broken? And slowly it unbroke. In the following weeks I will be posting a spoken interview. If you have any questions I would like to answer them, in the spoken interview, if I can. I have a sacred love and sincere appreciation for your kindness over the years. You have been friends. I want to thank you for that x Duffy Please respect this is a gentle move for me to make, for myself, and I do not want any intrusion to my family. Please support me to make this a positive experience. 1524

Johnny Perri grew up in Michigan at his dad's jewelry store in Washington Township, J & M Jewelers. The lockdown due to COVID-19 not only took an economic toll on the business, but it also left Johnny bored, looking for somewhere to focus his energy. And then, he found it -- the perfect farewell to his late father's store and a chance for some adventure of his own. “Had the time of our life burying everything. It was awesome, man," he told 7 Action News. That's right -- Johnny and his wife Amy buried most of the store's inventory, all over Michigan. From metro Detroit to the U.P., you can find vintage engagement rings, precious coins, gold, and silver. Johnny guesses each buried treasure is worth around ,000. All told, he said he buried around million worth of treasure. And all of the treasure is up for grabs - for those who buy a ticket to Johnny's Adventure Quest, which starts officially on Aug. 1.Aside from a lot of fun, there's one thing Johnny wants people to get out of this massive treasure hunt. "Memories. Life is made of memories and that was our slogan here all these years," he said. Each treasure has a GPS tracker, so Johnny will know if they've moved. Once found, you can keep the treasure or sell it back to Johnny. Some of the treasure is 150 years old – precious inventory passed down from his father. "He would think I’m nuts," Johnny said. "But he'd be all for it. He was a big giver." For more information, click here. WXYZ's Jenn Schanz first reported this story. 1535

For 52 years, Tom Hollett has been scanning the water as a lifeguard. But being a lifeguard in Vancouver, Canada means he also keeps watch over frozen water. “I'd rather make 10,000 rescues in the warm ocean than one here,” Hollett says of the frozen lake. This part of Canada, nestled between the Pacific Ocean and the North Shore Mountains, it’s the only part of the country where the average temperature stays above freezing, even in the winter. So, when the lakes start to freeze over, it’s a novelty. The lake attracts visitors, who are often tempted to tread on the thin ice, often times with their pets. “There’s people that don't understand the ice, so they just figure they can walk on it,” Hollett says. When temperatures are colder, as they have been this week, the City of Vancouver Parks and Recreation department dubs a few of their summer lifeguards, "iceguards." "Lifeguards are always scanning and keeping an eye out, so that's what our iceguards do,” Sean Healy with the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation says. “When they come out to iceguard, they actually do a walking patrol around the lake. They also keep binocs close at hand.”Hollett says he’s had to make ice rescues before for people’s pets. “Believe it or not, I’ve saved many dogs,” he recalls. “I grabbed their collar like this, reach out and bring ‘em up in the ice." 1369
