ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) – A man is dead after police say he barricaded himself inside an Escondido Motel Tuesday afternoon. Police were called to the Hacienda Motel on the 700 block of North Broadway around 2 p.m. after a man didn’t check out of his room. Once they arrived and approached the room, officers say the man inside told them he had a gun and to back away. As they retreated, officers heard two shots fired. SWAT was then called to assist and, after the suspect was barricaded inside the room for several hours, authorities entered and found the man dead. According to police, the man is approximately 30-years-old, but his identity hasn’t yet been released. The motel was evacuated during the incident and nearby streets blocked off. 755

(KGTV) -- The newest member of the San Diego Zoo Safari Park officially joined his herd Monday.Photos show the one-day-old calf, named Umzula-zuli, taking his first steps with the rest of the herd.The newest member of the zoo tipped the scales at more than 270 pounds, making him the largest calf ever born at the Safari Park.A newborn usually weighs 200 to 268 pounds. FALLBROOK (CNS) - Authorities Saturday were continuing to seek a driver who was involved in a crash with another car in Fallbrook early Friday then fled, was pursued by the other car's driver and escaped when the other driver was involved in a second crash.Officers said the driver of the Mustang was in critical condition at a hospital as a result of the crash.The dangerous chain of events began shortly before 9:40 a.m. when a brown SUV, possibly a GMC Envoy, and a Ford Mustang collided on southbound South Mission Road at Stage Coach Lane, just west of Fallbrook High School, according to information from CHP Officer Mark Latulippe.The "involved vehicles began to chase each other," Latulippe said, and the two cars initially headed south, but later turned around and continued north on South Mission Road.As the cars approached the intersection with Stage Coach Lane -- the same area where the first collision occurred -- a Honda CRV was also nearing the signal, heading west on Stage Coach.The SUV made it through the intersection, but the Mustang was struck by the CRV, which was heading into the intersection with a green light, Latulippe said.Another two cars, a Toyota Tundra and a Volvo V60, were also struck by the Mustang after the impact with the CRV.The driver of the Mustang, a 19-year-old Fallbrook man, suffered "major injuries" and was taken to Palomar Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition Friday night, Latulippe said.A female passenger in the Mustang, also 19, was being treated at Sharp Memorial Hospital for injuries described as minor.Drivers and passengers in the other cars involved in the second crash had complaints of pain, but no other injuries, according to Latulippe.It is believed the car involved in the initial crash is possibly an early 2000s GMC Envoy driven my a man. For how long?"I'm scared of what's going to happen to me," said Donohoe.Donohoe, who served as a deckhand for three years on the USS Columbus CG-12 during the Vietnam War, was later diagnosed with PTSD. "Constantly stressed, afraid I'm going to forget something," said Donohoe.Problems with short-term memory steadily grew worse."Missing doctor's appointments, missed bills, forgetting to get gas, forgetting to check the mail. Goes on and on," said Donohoe.The memory issues that cost him so many jobs could now cost him his home. Donohoe depends on Section 8 housing vouchers to pay most of his rent. A few days ago, Donohoe got a letter from his landlord: A three-day notice to pay his overdue rent.Donohoe believes he forgot to fill out the paperwork for the annual renewal for his housing voucher."Scared and depressed," said Donohoe.He owes more than 0 for this month's rent."I don't have it. I have a 0 in the bank and I haven't paid my electric yet," said Donohoe. Donohoe thinks he could be evicted at any moment.
