OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - A 7-year-old was found dead inside an Oceanside home Wednesday morning, leading to the arrest of her father, police say. According to Oceanside Police, the suspect's mother was called to the home on the 3500 block of Las Vegas Drive around 11 a.m. to pick up the suspect’s two children. When the woman went inside to pick up the children, she noticed blood on her son, Pedro Araujo, 27, police say. After leaving the home with one of the children, a 6-year-old girl, police say the woman called 911. Police arrived and, after searching through the home, found the body of the 7-year-old girl. Araujo was arrested and taken into custody, police say. "I'm shocked," said neighbor Tina Torres of the crime scene in her neighborhood. Researchers have now quantified how much opioids are shortening US life spans.The researchers noted that the number of opioid overdose deaths are probably underestimated because of gaps in how death certificates are completed.From 2000 to 2015, death rates due to heart disease, diabetes and other key causes declined, adding 2.25 years to US life expectancy. But increases in deaths from Alzheimer's disease, suicide and other causes offset some of those gains. On average, Americans can now expect to live 78.8 years, according to data from 2015, the most recent data available. (AP) — A worker doing an inspection on a popular central Florida thrill ride was killed Monday after falling more than 50 feet.Orange County Fire Rescue tweeted that firefighters responded to the Orlando StarFlyer ride early Monday after receiving a report that the 21-year-old man had fallen. The unidentified worker was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.The ride wasn’t moving at the time.At 450 feet, the Orlando StarFlyer is billed as the world’s tallest swing ride. Officials are investigating a deadly plane crash near 7th Street and Deer Valley Road on Monday morning. The FAA says the aircraft involved is a single-engine, home-built Acroduster. It reportedly crashed in the intersection around 6:50 a.m. under unknown circumstances. One person was killed and another was injured, according to Phoenix aviation officials. Phoenix Fire says they took the surviving victim, a man, to the hospital in critical condition. Video from the scene showed emergency crews working around debris in the roadway near several damaged cars. Police told media on scene the vehicles had substantial damage but no one on the ground was hurt. The area is shut down to drivers and there is no estimated time to reopen.
