The US announced Friday it would send additional troops to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates in response to the attack on Saudi oil facilities, which the US has blamed on Tehran.Describing the attack as a "dramatic escalation of Iranian aggression," Defense Secretary Mark Esper told reporters at the Pentagon that the troops would be "defensive in nature and primarily focused on air and missile defense" following the attacks on Saudi oil facilities attacks which Esper said "all indications are that Iran was responsible for.""Right now we're focused on helping the Saudis improve their defense infrastructure," Esper said. The administration's goal is to send a "clear message" that the United States supports its partners in the region, will defend the free flow of commerce through the Persian Gulf and demonstrate its commitment to the rules-based international order."As the President has made clear, the United States does not seek conflict with Iran," Esper said, "that said, we have many other military options available should they be necessary."New sanctionsThe Pentagon announcement came hours after 1134
There has been talk around the country lately of a recession and what to do to prevent it from happening.President Donald Trump has pushed the idea of significantly lowering interest rates. So, what would that mean for the average American? "What it does is it shifts the economic balance of power towards borrowers and away from lenders,” said Miles Kimball, Professor of Economics at the University of Colorado Boulder. “And guess what, people who borrow money are people who are more eager to spend than lenders." This could make getting a loan easier and more affordable.Kimball says if interest rates drop, it encourages people to spend money they've been saving rather than leave it in the bank."All of a sudden you think about a zero percent loan, obviously the economic benefit is huge there," said a new home buyer, Todd.Zillow says the average price of a home is 1,000. With a 3.8% interest rate, a payment would be ,144, but even if the rate dropped to just 1%, it would be 8. Although that sounds amazing, banks would have to charge fees because they would be handing out more money than depositors are putting in. 1146

The White House's coronavirus task force provided an update on the administration's response to the pandemic as the number of confirmed cases in the U.S. rose to about 3,000 on Sunday.During brief comments, President Donald Trump praised the Federal Reserve's decision to slash interest rates to nearly zero, saying he was "very happy." Trump had pressured the apolitical agency for days to slash interest rates in the hopes of boosting the economy."You won't hear anything bad from me (about the fed) unless it's a few months from now," Trump said.Trump also addressed the latest information from the CDC, which now confirms that more than 3,000 Americans are confirmed to have contracted the disease, with estimates for those infected much higher.Trump left the podium without taking questions. He did not address his test for COVID-19; the White House said Saturday that Trump had tested negative for the virus, despite the fact that he came into contact with at least two people that have since tested positive for the disease.Trump administration officials also addressed the thousands of Americans who are returning to the country amid a 3--day travel ban to Europe.
