SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The San Diego Air & Space Museum will hold an induction ceremony for its Air & Space Hall of Fame 2019 class Saturday, which includes Amazon and Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos.In addition to Bezos, the 2019 class includes former Lockheed Martin Corporation Chairman Vance Coffman, MedAire founder Joan Sullivan Garrett, Apollo 12 command module pilot Dick Gordon, D-Day Pathfinder pilot Lt. David Hamilton, Boeing Company aerodynamicist and aerospace engineer Robert Liebeck and Robert Gilliland, the first man to fly the SR-71 Blackbird.The museum launched the International Air & Space Hall of Fame in 1963 to honor pilots, inventors, engineers, space explorers and more who have made important contributions in the fields of Earth and space flight. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego's Bumble Bee Foods filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Thursday, facing criminal fines and civil litigation after the company pleaded guilty to a price-fixing scheme with rival seafood companies Starkist Co. and Chicken of the Sea Inc.Bumble Bee filed for bankruptcy protection in Wilmington, Delaware, listing up to billion in both assets and liabilities, according to a Los Angeles Times report. FCF Fishery Co. is expected to acquire the company's assets for more than 0 million through a competitive bidding process. Bumble Bee is currently owned by Lion Capital, an English private equity firm.The company pleaded guilty to the price-fixing scheme in 2017, admitting that the three companies conspired to raise the price of canned and packaged tuna in the U.S. from 2011 to 2013. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego County public health officials have reported 283 new COVID-19 cases and no new deaths, raising the region's total number of cases to 26,984, with the death toll remaining at 533.The county reported 7,505 diagnostic tests Saturday, 4% of which returned positive. The 14-day rolling average of positive tests is 5.6%. The target set by California is less than 8%. The seven-day daily average of tests is 9,201. Of the total positive cases, 2,391 -- or 8.9% -- required hospitalization and 614 -- or 2.3% -- were admitted to an intensive care unit.Three new community setting outbreaks were reported Saturday in a restaurant/bar, food processing facility and business. In the past seven days, 11 community outbreaks were confirmed. The number of community outbreaks is above the trigger of seven or more in seven days. A community setting outbreak is defined as three or more COVID-19 cases in a setting and in people of different households.The next pandemic briefing from health officials will be Monday.Cal State San Marcos sent an advisory to students and staff Thursday notifying them that two employees who were working on campus have tested positive for COVID-19."One individual was last on campus on July 16 and the other individual on July 17," the advisory said. The university's branch of the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research also ranked 42nd among the top biomedical science non-governmental organizations in the country.The rankings come from Nature Index, which tracks high-quality scientific research, studies and articles and the institutions with which they're associated. A 32-year-old man was killed and a 37-year old man went to the hospital with a wound to the torso, according to San Diego police.
