SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Residents may be seeing Uber delivery drones in San Diego's skies as soon as this year.Uber Elevate, Uber's drone and air transportation leg, announced this week during the Forbes’ 30 under 30 Summit that the company will begin testing Uber Eats delivery drones in summer 2020. The company added, though, that delivery service using partner drone operators could come in the coming months.A rendering of the Uber Eats drone shows six-rotors will allow the drone to take off and land vertically, with the ability to rotate to provide more lift and speed. The drone is designed to carry a meal for two people.Uber Elevate says the drone is designed to travel a total of 18 miles or 12 miles round-trip. The company says the drone is equipped to cruise below 400 feet and comply with existing regulations to operate the aircraft.The company estimates the drone can perform a delivery in eight minutes, including time to load and unload.The company says the design has passed the design review phase and is expected to fly before the end of the year. 1073

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police made six DUI arrests during a downtown checkpoint Saturday night. The checkpoint was conducted on the 1400 block of G Street between 11 p.m. Saturday and 3 a.m. Sunday. In total, 1,765 vehicles drove through the checkpoint and 526 were screened. Six drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. Meanwhile, two drivers were cited or arrested for operating a vehicle without a license. Two citations were also issued for unspecified reasons at the checkpoint. “The San Diego Police Department will be conducting another DUI/Drivers License Checkpoint or DUI saturation patrol on March 15, 2020, in our ongoing commitment to lowering deaths and injuries upon our streets and highways,” police said in a news release. 792

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police Homicide investigators and Crime Stoppers asked for the public’s help Thursday to solve the mystery of an unidentified boy whose skeletal remains were found on a Rancho Bernardo hiking trail in 2004.Two hikers found the 2 to 4-year-old boy, called “Baby Doe” by police.  Forensic testing showed the boy was born between 1999 and 2001, and had features “consistent with being mostly Caucasian”, according to investigators. The boy also had light to medium brown hair.Police said isotopic testing indicates the boy was born on the mainland United States. His mother likely lived in the southeastern part of the country for part of her pregnancy and the first year of the boy’s life before they moved west, investigators said.Anyone with information is asked to call Lt. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego County reported a record new 1,802 coronavirus cases on Friday, bringing the region's total to 78,159 cases thus far.The new cases resulted in an 8% positive rate out of 21,671 reported tests for the county's daily tally. No new deaths were reported on Friday, as the death toll sits at 996.The new case totals come as public and federal health officials urge the public to keep gatherings limited and small this Thanksgiving and not to travel.Hospitalizations in the county remained at 580 on Friday, while ICU cases rose slightly from 166 to 173 — both of which have nearly doubled since a month earlier, according to the county's data.There were 82 community outbreaks in San Diego County as of Friday. A community outbreak is defined as three or more COVID-19 cases in a setting and in people of different households over the past 14 days. 880
