SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — With San Diego Comic-Con fans missing the convention in-person this year, some have instead left a tribute across the street from the convention center.Fans of the pop culture event recently began leaving flowers, t-shirts, and notes of their memories from past Comic-Cons outside TinFish — a popular site for people watching and off-site SDCC experiences every year.Chris Morrow, one of the organizers of the shrine, says the tribute was organized as a way for fans to continue connecting over their shared love of the convention.RELATED: San Diego Comic-Con 2020: What to know about SDCC@Home"Residents from San Diego County got together to show love and respect to Comic-Con. The popular arts convention is online this year and residents wanted to let everyone know San Diego Comic-con is not forgotten and we will see them back in person 2021 in San Diego," Morrow wrote.She says that they're asking fans to socially distance and drop off a note or flowers until Monday, July 27. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- A troubled spot in Lincoln Park is getting a new look. The community came together to clean up the site.The intersection of Euclid and Imperial Avenues was once known as the "Four Corners of Death" because of the high crime, gang activity, and homelessness. Now the area is getting some long-overdue attention."I remember when that area was bustling with businesses and commerce," says Brian Pollard, President of the Urban Collaborative Project.Since 2017, the Urban Collaborative Project has been working with community members, the city, and county to clean up the area and find help for those living on the streets.Brian Pollard says there has been an increase in affordable housing in the area, but resources like healthcare and food are still limited."We're putting more people in here but not increasing the services that are needed to support these affordable housing units. Food is a very big issue."The group's first significant project was bringing the Food 4 Less, located in Market Creek Plaza, to Southeast San Diego years ago. This part of town has virtually no major grocery stores."Until we start acknowledging that and pumping resources and shifting priorities, we will never catch up," says Pollard.UCP hopes to redevelop the Lincoln Park area, near Euclid and Imperial Avenues, to see it thrive as it did years ago, inviting businesses to invest in the process.The group is planning a community clean up in the coming weeks to beautify the area. 1491

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — While the bulk of rainfall has moved out of San Diego County for the week, high winds and surf while persist through the weekend.A large west-northwest swell will bring a high surf advisory to San Diego County through Saturday until 8 p.m., with surf reaching 6 to 10 feet along the county's southern coastline. Surf will subside gradually through the end of the weekend.During that time, however, an increased risk of rip currents will create a hazard along the area's beaches.WEATHER: 10News' weekend forecastHeading into Saturday night, another storm system will bring mostly light to moderate rain Saturday night and the possibility of snow in local mountains.High winds from the west are forecasted for portions of San Diego's mountains and deserts, with a wind advisory will be in effect from 4 p.m. Saturday to 7 a.m. Sunday. Wind gusts could reach 55 mph and isolated gusts could hit 65 mph.Those winds will make driving difficult in the area, especially for high profile vehicles. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- A mother from Sacramento is back in San Diego to search for her missing son, a San Diego State graduate who was living in Pacific Beach.Wesley Billingsly was last heard from on June 12, 2018. He was supposed to meet friends for dinner in Pacific Beach, but never showed up.Since then, there has been no sign of him.He is 5’8”, 130 pounds with hazel eyes and brown hair. He has several tattoos.Christel Billingsly, Wesley’s mother, has spent her days posting fliers, reaching out to people on social media, and keeping up with the San Diego Police missing person’s investigation into her son’s disappearance.“He was here actively driving these streets, going to that Vons to get gas,” she said while standing in a Vons parking lot on Garnet Avenue. “And then he just disappears?”She is offering a ,000 reward to anyone who helps bring her son home.“I know somebody that's reading these posters knows where my son is,” she said. “They need to speak up and tell me where he is because this is enough, it's enough.”Back in August, Christel Billingsley flew to San Diego from Sacramento and spent her son's 25th birthday searching for him.Police located his vehicle in the South Bay but that has been the only trace of him. After that Christel Billingsly made her way to Mexico to search for him.“I went and met with the police in Mexico, I had a translator with me,” she said. “I went and filed a missing report,” she also checked morgues and jails.She said her son had earned a degree in business administration and marketing from SDSU. He moved back home to Sacramento briefly to work and save enough money to return to San Diego.Once he returned, he was staying with different friends at homes in Pacific Beach as he looked for jobs.Christel pays her son’s cellphone bill and said the phone stopped showing any activity once he disappeared. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- U.S Customs and Border Protection apprehended two suspects wanted in connection to both an attempted homicide and a homicide Wednesday afternoon. According to CBP, the incident began Wednesday around 3:30 p.m. at the Otay Mesa Port of Entry after a 35-year-old U.S. citizen entered the crossing with two other U.S. citizen passengers, a 37-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman. The vehicle was escorted to a secure location for processing after officers were alerted that one of the travelers was wanted. After investigating the situation, officers learned that the driver, Monica Cecilia Jimenez was wanted for attempted murder and Omar Alapizco was wanted for homicide by the Oceanside Police Department for the same crime. U.S. Marshals and the Oceanside Police Department responded and took custody of both Jimenez and Alapizco. 861
