TOKYO, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao arrived in Japan Friday for the 18th Economic Leaders' Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), which is slated for Saturday and Sunday in Yokohama.Hu and his wife, Liu Yongqing, were welcomed by senior officials from the Japanese Foreign Ministry at Haneda airport.Chief Executive Donald Tsang of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Chinese Ambassador to Japan Cheng Yonghua were also present at the airport to greet Hu.President Hu, who flew into Tokyo from Seoul after attending the fifth summit of the Group of 20 (G20), was traveling by car to Yokohama.With the theme of "Change and Action," this year's Economic Leaders' Meeting will focus on the regional economic integration, a growth strategy for the Asia-Pacific region, human security, the economic and technical cooperation, and the assessment of achievement of Bogor Goals by APEC economies, according to the meeting agenda.The Bogor Goals call for free and open trade and investment in the Asia-Pacific by 2010 for industrialized economies and by 2020 for developing economies. These goals were adopted by leaders at their 1994 meeting in Bogor, Indonesia.President Hu will speak at the meeting to present China's view on these issues, Chinese officials said.Before the Economic Leaders' Meeting, the Chinese president will deliver a speech at the APEC CEO Summit, Chinese officials said.APEC is the premier forum for facilitating economic growth, cooperation, trade and investment in the Asia-Pacific region.Since its birth in 1989, APEC has grown to encompass 21 members spanning four continents, and represents the most economically dynamic region in the world, accounting for approximately 40 percent of the world's population, around 50 percent of world GDP and about 44 percent of world trade.APEC's 21 member economies are Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, China, China's Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, the Philippines, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, the United States and Vietnam.

The two countries have conducted effective consultation and coordination in dealing with regional conflicts, fighting against terrorism, maintaining the international nonproliferation mechanisms and coping with major international issues," Cui said.He said the two countries made important contributions to help the Asia-Pacific region and the world work their way out from the financial crisis. Their active coordination promoted the successful holding of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) high-level negotiations in Copenhagen and Cancun.The two countries also share same demands in maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and working for its denuclearization, Cui said, noting the two countries are negotiating with all parties to ease the situation.Saying no country could handle the emerging global challenges without effective international cooperation, the vice foreign minister said it is also a common will of international society that the two countries would join hands and make more contribution for the world's peace and common development.The Lanting Forum, initiated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is a platform for communication and exchanges between government, the business community, academia, media and the public.The Forum aims to create a new channel to facilitate discussions on foreign policies and issues of common interest by interested parties.The theme of the second Lanting Forum is "China-US Relations in the New Era."

GABORONE, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping said here on Monday that China is satisfied with its relations with Botswana.In a meeting with Botswana's President Ian Khama, Xi said the bilateral ties have developed steadily and fruitfully and that both sides have kept close coordination in the international arena.Xi, who arrived in Gaborone on Saturday for an official visit, noted that bilateral economic cooperation has maintained a good momentum in recent years, and Botswana has become one of China's vital partners in Africa."The Chinese side is satisfied with the development of bilateral ties," Xi was quoted as saying by a press release issued by the Chinese delegation.He said China values its ties with Botswana, noting that China will continue to enhance political trust, expand economic cooperation and strengthen people-to-people and cultural exchange with Botswana."I believe the China-Botswana friendly cooperation is sure to have a promising future," he said.The Chinese vice president also praised Botswana for its active role in the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, calling for joint efforts to push forward the smooth development of the forum.Botswana is the final leg of Xi's four-nation trip to Asia and Africa. NAIROBI, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- Jointly set up by China and Africa in October 2000, the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) has made abundant achievements in the last decade, boosting the development of the new type of China-Africa strategic partnership in an all-round and tangible way.The FOCAC, a collective consultation and dialogue mechanism between China and African countries, is the first of its kind in the history of China-Africa relations. It is a major future- oriented move taken by both sides in the context of South-South cooperation to seek common development in the new situation.Besides four ministerial meetings, the forum held a summit in November 2006 in Beijing, when Chinese President Hu Jintao and his African counterparts agreed unanimously to building "a new type of strategic partnership featuring political equality and mutual trust, economic win-win cooperation and cultural exchanges". It is an important milestone and beacon for the China-Africa relation development in the new times. The Chinese government has fully implemented the eight initiatives of assistance developed at a series of ministerial conferences and particularly at the Beijing Summit. Moreover, a new set of eight initiatives has been launched since the 4th Ministerial Conference of FOCAC last year.With a prosperous FOCAC, China-Africa relations registered considerable progress in all sectors. BEIJING, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang Friday called for improving the management and supervision of China's state-owned assets and promoting the development of state-owned enterprises (SOEs), to preserve and increase the value of state property.Chinese state assets management and supervision authorities should work to improve monitoring systems and boost the scientific development of state-owned economies, as Chinese SOEs will face the "pressing task" of reform and development over the next five years, Zhang told a national conference on state assets supervision and management.Chinese SOEs progressed rapidly in the previous five years, he said, adding that state-owned economies play an important role in the development of the Chinese economy.Zhang urged state assets management and supervision authorities to further improve the organizational and legal systems, accelerate the reform of SOEs, and transform the development pattern of SOEs, which are responsible for taking the lead in China's scientific innovation and making contributions to the nation's development.
