CHULA VISTA, Calif., (KGTV) -- Following in the footsteps of neighboring San Diego, the City of Chula Vista launched a one-year e-scooter pilot program Sunday. Lime representatives held a "first ride" event at Discovery Park, introducing Chula Vista residents to the scooters. The event included safety training and an obstacle course where participants could practice using the scooters to get a free helmet.The city says the pilot program will allow Lime to stage 500 e-scooters at popular locations across Chula Vista for the first month. If all goes well, Lime can add 200 e-scooters every month after that.Some love the convenience. Others say they have seen too many problems in San Diego to support them. "They need to have parking areas for these things and designated legislation for helmets if they're going to have these things out there," said Daryll Coleman, a 12-year resident of Chula Vista. "That's my opinion. Should they be out here? I don't think so." This comes just two months after the City of San Diego notified Lime that it was revoking the scooter company's operating permit. The city claims Lime violated its geo-fencing rules.Residents say they are curious to see how the mayor's office will adjust rules to fit their city. 1259

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - Chula Vista Police identified Tuesday a man and woman who were shot by the woman’s ex-boyfriend in a deadly domestic violence dispute near a Costco. The incident happened Monday afternoon while Angelina Perez, 32 and Samuel Valdez, 31, were loading groceries in the trunk of their vehicle in the parking lot of the store on Broadway with their infant daughter in a stroller. Sean Illian, 48, approached them with a gun and opened fire, hitting Perez and Valdez several times, police said. The baby was not hurt.Witnesses in the parking lot saw Illian shoot himself in the head. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. Police said Perez and Illian had been in a relationship which ended badly in 2018. Perez began dating Valdez just after the breakup, investigators said. CHULA VISTA (KGTV) -- Chula Vista police investigators are searching for clues in the fatal shooting of a 52-year-old man early Saturday morning.Officers responded to a report of gunshots at around 5:08 a.m. in the 900 block of Agua Tibia Avenue, a few blocks west of Cook Elementary School.A witness led officers to a residence where gunshots were believed to have originated, according to CVPD Lt. Dan Peak.Peak said when officers entered the home, they discovered the victim on the ground with a gunshot wound."Officers attempted life saving measures on the subject and despite resuscitation efforts, he was pronounced deceased at the scene," said Peak.The victim has been identified as Dean Tinsley. No further information about the victim was released.Peak said there is no known motive for the slaying at this time.
