According to the county’s public health department, the person who died was a woman in her 60s who was hospitalized for several weeks. The woman was the first person in Santa Clara County to test positive for COVID-19 without any known history of international travel or contact with a traveler. (KGTV) — Four Congressmen, including House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, Scott Peters, Juan Vargas, and Mike Levin, participated in an all-access tour of the San Ysidro Land Port of Entry Friday afternoon. Upon finishing the tour, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer of Maryland said sternly, “There is no crisis at the border. There is no justification for an emergency declaration at the border.” This was a direct contradiction to President Trump's reasoning to build a southern border wall. It has been almost one month since the Department of Homeland Security began implementing the new Migrant Protection Protocol (MPP). The policy forces migrants from Central and South America entering the United States without papers, or those claiming asylum, to in Mexico for the duration of their immigration proceedings. SANTA ANA (CNS) - A child who tested positive for West Nile Virus is the first person to be infected this year in Orange County, officials reported today.The child, whose age and identity are protected, was diagnosed sometime last week and was hospitalized but is expected to recover, according to the Orange County Health Care Agency. This was the first time this year a person in the county has been infected.The state has reported 10 people infected statewide so far in 2020. County officials said a total of seven people contracted West Nile in the area last year.One in five individuals infected with West Nile, for which there is no cure, will exhibit symptoms that include fever, headache, body aches, nausea or skin rash. The symptoms can last for several days to months.One in 150 people infected with the virus will require hospitalization. Severe symptoms include high fever, muscle weakness, neck stiffness, coma, paralysis and possibly death. Those at greatest risk include seniors and individuals with compromised immune systems.People older than 50 and who have underlying medical conditions are at a heightened risk.``The best way to avoid West Nile Virus infection is to take precautionary measures to avoid mosquito bites,'' said Dr. Clayton Chau, the director of the Orange County Health Care Agency and interim chief health officer for the county.To curb the spread of West Nile Virus, experts say it's critical to remove typical breeding grounds for mosquitoes that carry the disease. (KGTV) -- A man has been taken into custody following a carjacking Friday afternoon in Santee, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.The incident started on the 9800 block of Mission Gorge Road around 1 p.m. when the suspect reportedly threatened to kill a 77-year-old woman and her family before hitting her, removing her from the car, and driving away with her purse and cell phone.Sheriff's deputies and La Mesa Police later found the suspect, Chris DiSalvo, 30, sitting in the stolen car on the 4600 block of Palm Drive in La Mesa. When he saw law enforcement, the department says he took off, crashing into a tree and running into a nearby apartment complex.DiSalvo was later found hiding in a stairwell and was arrested, the department says.According to authorities, DiSalvo admitted to taking drugs. He was given a dose of Naloxone and taken to the hospital.Upon his release from the medical facility, the department says he will be booked on several felony charges, including carjacking. 1035
