SAN DIEGO (CNS) -- San Diego Gas & Electric residential customers will see their electricity bills reduced by .28 in both August and September thanks to a climate credit program.Designed to fight climate change, the California Climate Credit will come from a state program that requires power plants, natural gas providers and other large industries that emit greenhouse gases to buy carbon pollution permits. The credit on customers' bills is their share of the payments from the state's program."This bill credit provides some financial relief at a critical time when many people need it due to the COVID-19 economic crisis and summer weather driving up energy use," said Scott Crider, SDG&E's vice president of customer services.Originally, the credit was scheduled to appear on customer bills in April and October. To help reduce bill spikes in the summer, when energy usage typically goes up along with the temperature, SDG&E successfully petitioned the California Public Utilities Commission to change the timing of the credit to August and September -- the months when air conditioning use typically peaks. There is no action required to receive the credit. All residential customers, including community choice aggregation customers, will automatically receive this credit from SDG&E on their August and September billing cycles.Residential customers with natural gas service received the natural gas portion of the California Climate Credit -- .11 -- in April. In 2021, the electric and gas credit will follow the same schedule as this year. 1579

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The San Diego Humane Society announced Wednesday that it will offer refunds to San Diego residents who overpaid for certain services between July 2018 and last week. Humane Society officials recently determined that some residents paid fees that were higher than the amounts the city of San Diego adopted on July 1, 2018, for local animal services. The organization plans to contact and offer refunds to residents affected by the overcharging that occurred between July 1 last year and Nov. 19 of this year. The organization also offered discounted services to residents via promotions intended to increase animal adoptions and make it easier to adopt a pet. Residents who paid for animal services at discounted prices will not be contacted, according to the Humane Society. 800

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The California State University Board of Trustees announced the appointment Wednesday of Ellen Neufeldt as president of the San Marcos campus.Neufeldt will become the university's fourth president when she takes over in July. She is currently the vice president of student engagement and enrollment services at Old Dominion University in Virginia.CSU officials had searched for and interviewed candidates for the Cal State San Marcos presidency since November."Dr. Neufeldt has been a visionary leader who has demonstrated a commitment to student success throughout her career," said CSU Trustee and search committee chair Jean Picker Firstenberg. "She brings a wealth of experience, and will serve as an inspirational leader on the campus and in the community."Current CSUSM President Karen Haynes announced last September that she plans to retire in June. Haynes, will leave office as the longest-tenured president in the university's history, helped increase the school's population from 7,000 in 2004 to the current 17,000 and added 15 new buildings and more than 100 academic programs.Neufeldt has held her current role at Old Dominion since 2011, overseeing government relations and marketing and public relations in addition to student engagement and enrollment services. Prior to joining Old Dominion, she also served as the vice president of student affairs at Salisbury University and assistant vice chancellor for student development at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.Neufeldt said she was looking forward to her new post."There has been remarkable growth both on the campus and in the local community and the opportunity for additional growth still remains," Neufeldt said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The City Council will be asked Tuesday to rename what had been Qualcomm Stadium to SDCCU Stadium, with San Diego County Credit Union bidding 0,000 for the naming rights, according to documents made available Thursday. The credit union recently took over as the primary sponsor of the Holiday Bowl college football game that's held in the stadium. The agreement, if approved, would run to the end of next year. While stadium naming rights typically run into the millions of dollars, city officials didn't anticipate receiving that kind of money because of the short term of the deal. Municipal coffers would net 5,000 from the proposed agreement, according to a staff report.RELATED: Deadline hits to submit naming rights bids for Qualcomm StadiumIn its proposal, SDCCU said it would work to boost attendance at stadium events. The company has a history of heavily promoting events it sponsors. Now that the Chargers are playing in Los Angeles County, city officials envision closing the aging, money-losing stadium after the 2018 college season. San Diego State University officials are pushing for an extension in order to build a new home for the Aztecs. The city contracted with Fox Sports College Properties to find an interested party for the naming rights.RELATED: City of San Diego committee considers possibilities for Qualcomm StadiumSDCCU was one of four bidders. The others were Gemini Sports Group, a Phoenix company that handles sponsorships and naming rights; Mitek, a San Diego- based mobile technology firm; and Traction Video, a San Diego video production firm. 1611

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The San Diego County Registrar of Voters reported today it has received more than 137,000 completed ballots for the November election. The ballots are in the process of being put through a sorting machine that captures images of voters' signatures for comparison to ones the registrar has on file, according to the agency.Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, San Diego-area polling places will be open for four days instead of one, according to county Registrar Michael Vu.Vu has announced that his office is working with county public health services to ensure the health and safety of election workers and voters.Personal protective equipment and sanitation supplies will be provided to staffers so they can conduct the election process safely. 764
