PARIS, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Legislative bodies of China and France launched their regular parliamentary exchange mechanism on Thursday, vowing to further push forward the Sino-French comprehensive strategic partnership.Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of Chinese National People's Congress (NPC), and Bernard Accoyer, speaker of the French National Assembly, jointly declared the beginning of the first meeting of Sino-French Parliamentary Cooperation Committee.Wu said the launch of the high-level meeting between the two legislative bodies signals the Sino-French parliamentary exchanges were promoted to a new stage.Accoyer said the regular parliamentary exchange mechanism could serve as an important platform for both nations to exchange views on mutual concerns and promote bilateral cooperation in politics, technology, new energy and environmental protection.Ahead of the meeting, Wu and Accoyer held talks on bilateral ties and parliamentary cooperation.Accoyer said France attached great importance to Wu's visit as Wu is the first Chinese top legislator that visited France in 13 years.France regards China as a strategic partner, expecting to expand all-round strategic cooperation with China, boost coordination on international issues, through joint efforts against global financial crisis, climate change and other challenges, he said.Wu said his ongoing visit to France is aimed to build a closer relation between the Chinese NPC and the French National Assembly. He stressed that China will hold more dialogues and communications with France to enhance political mutual trust and boost the Sino- French economic cooperation.Earlier on the day, Wu held talks with French Senate President Gerard Larcher. OTTAWA, June 24 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese President Hu Jintao met Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper on Thursday for talks on the development of China-Canada ties.The two leaders are also expected to exchange views on major global and regional issues of common concern, said Chinese diplomats.According to the schedule, Hu and Harper will attend a signing ceremony of cooperation documents following their talks.Hu flew into Ottawa on Wednesday for a state visit to Canada.This year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Canada.

BEIJING, June 10 (Xinhua) -- China's foreign exchange regulator said Thursday it will strengthen monitoring of cross-border capital flows to reduce risk.The regulator will keep a close watch on the economic and financial situation home and abroad this year, the State Administration of Foreign Exchange (SAFE) said in its annual report on management of foreign exchange posted on its website.It will also enhance its monitoring of abnormal cross-border capital flows by cracking down on illegal private banks and internet-based speculation in foreign exchange.The SAFE will maintain a prudent approach to managing foreign currency reserves and will continue to improve its diversification strategy.China's balance of payments continue to expand, albeit slowly, despite the impact of the global financial crisis.At the end of 2009, China's foreign exchange reserves hit 2.4 trillion U.S. dollars, a 453 billion U.S. dollar increase from the end of 2008.China had gold reserves of 1,054 tonnes at the end of last year, the fifth largest in the world.Although gold has commodity and monetary properties, the global gold market is relatively small and illiquid, the report noted, adding that because of its volatile price and high cost of holding and trading, gold has limited utility in asset allocation.

BEIJING, June 15 (Xinhua) -- Two Chinese chartered planes carrying 195 Chinese nationals who were evacuated from Kyrgyzstan arrived at an airport in Urumqi, capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region early Tuesday, the Foreign Ministry said.The Chinese government dispatched the two Boeing 737-700 passenger planes late Monday to bring back Chinese nationals living in southern Kyrgyzstan, where ethnic clashes has left more than 120 dead.The first plane landed at 4:25 a.m. (Beijing Time) and the second, 5:20 a.m.(Beijing Time), according to Chinese diplomats waiting at the airport.The government dispatched two working groups to Kyrgyzstan and Urumqi on Monday for the evacuation task.A chartered plane of China Southern Airlines gets ready to take off at the airport in Urumqi, northwest of China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, on June 14, 2010.
