CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — Four astronauts are heading to Florida's Kennedy Space Center for SpaceX's second crew launch next weekend. This time there are twice as many astronauts as the test flight earlier this year, and the mission will last for a full six months. The three Americans and one Japanese astronaut are due in Florida on Sunday. They're scheduled to rocket away Saturday night to the International Space Station. For NASA, it marks the long-awaited start of regular crew rotations, with private companies providing the lifts. CAPE CORAL, Fla. — A Lee County mom kept her son home from school on Monday because she felt it was inappropriate for the school to allow children to have a water gun fight in the wake of recent school shootings.The mother, who did not want to be identified because she didn't want to identify her son, said during a time when students are put through active shooter training, encouraging students to shoot what she calls water guns at each other is inappropriate.The Lee County School District is calling them "squirt toys," and says they're not water guns."What is this? Put the fun back in the gun? I don't understand it. It completely contradicts everything they stand for," the mom said.She said her son came home from Mariner Middle School recently and told her he would need money for a water gun fight on field day."This is completely asinine. I don't understand. They're telling us it's necessary to teach them there's no tolerance for guns. You enter the property, it's a gun free zone. Yet they're saying here's a gun, point it at me, point it at your fellow student and pull the trigger," she said.She said she understands they're meant for fun.  "But who knows what's going on inside these kids heads now-a-days. How do you know they're not fantasizing about the adrenaline rush of what if this is real?" she said.She said given the timing of the Santa Fe school shooting and increased sensitivity in Florida after the Parkland shooting, this activity isn't appropriate."Any other day of the year, according to the Lee County School District code of conduct policy, there's no fake weaponry even allowed on school," she said. The Lee County School District spokesperson said they're not water guns, they're squirt toys or pool toys. He also said: "Field days are meant to be a reward for the students hard work during the school year. We encourage any parent who has concerns with certain school activities to contact their child's principal." CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. (KGTV) — A pair of brothers was arrested this week after police say they tried to carjack a man working on his vehicle on Interstate 5, assaulted him, and fled onto Camp Pendleton property.The brothers were traveling on southbound I-5 on Tuesday at about 10 a.m. when their Ford Mustang broke down just north of Las Pulgas Road. The pair walked to Vista Point and asked a truck driver for a ride to Long Beach, but the driver said no, California Highway Patrol said.The brothers then approached a 58-year-old man from San Diego who was working on his broken-down vehicle. The man was leaning over the engine of his vehicle with the hood up when one of the brothers placed the man in a headlock while the other brother assaulted the man in the face and body, CHP said.The truck driver who denied the brothers a lift saw the attack and came to the victim's aid. The brothers fled the area west, and climbed over a fence onto Camp Pendleton, said CHP.Camp Pendelton Police were nearby and quickly found and detained the two. CHP officers responded to the scene as well. The victim received moderate to major injuries during the assault and is expected to recover.Gonzalo Lopez, 24, and Eusebio Lopez, 19, both from Long Beach, were arrested and charged with assault and battery, and attempted carjacking. Gonzalo was also charged with driving under the influence while Eusebio was charged with being drunk in public. 1444

CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) - The sister of an Orange County teenager whose pleas for help on Interstate 5 prompted 911 calls is explaining the family’s efforts to take the girl to rehab. California Highway Patrol officials said other drivers reported seeing the girl with her hands and feet tied Monday about 7 p.m. Officers pulled over the Toyota Corolla at south I-5 and Cannon Road in Carlsbad and found the girl restrained with tape over her mouth. The girl’s father told the CHP he and his 21-year-old daughter were driving the girl to a drug rehab facility in Mexico. The sister told 10News the girl was bound because her family didn’t want her to escape. The family was concerned the girl would end up dead. The sister also told 10News the teen wasn’t accepted into rehab in Orange County because she had escaped in the past. The family visited the clinic in Tijuana earlier this month to determine it was safe, the sister said. CHP public information officer Kevin Smale said the father and sister were arrested Monday but the district attorney’s office chose not to book them on kidnapping charges.
