SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are searching for a driver who reportedly hit two people crossing the street in East Village before running away. According to San Diego Police, the incident happened on the 300 block of 14th Street around 12:20 a.m. Sunday. Police say a 24-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man were crossing 14th street in an unmarked crosswalk when the driver of a Ford Mustang attempted to make a U-turn, lost control and hit the pair. The crash left the woman pinned against the wall with a fractured hip and the man with abrasions, according to police. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - One person was killed in a chain-reaction crash on Interstate 805 in the South Bay that forced lane closures and led to a heavy traffic backup during the Wednesday morning commute.Shortly after 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, the California Highway Patrol reported a crash involving a Nissan pickup truck colliding with a Caltrans truck that was working along the side of northbound I-805 near Bonita Road.CHP officials determined that a Toyota Yaris struck the pickup, causing it to slam into the back of the Caltrans truck, which was hauling asphalt.CHECK TRAFFIC CONDITIONS10News learned the Nissan's driver died at the hospital after sustaining injuries from the wreck.Yaris' driver, a 29-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter.No other injuries were reported, and CHP officials said the crash is under investigation.The crash and clean-up led to the closure of at least two lanes on northbound I-805 at Bonita Road. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - New plans for a development in the Bay Park neighborhood are aimed at providing "transit-oriented" homes amid the region's housing crunch.Protea Properties has plans for the 3.5-acre lot right off Interstate 5, between Clairemont Drive and Morena Boulevard. The site is located across from the future Blue Line Trolley Station.The development director of the project confirms the development includes 156 apartments and 40,000-square-feet of retail and restaurant spaces. Some community members are concerned with the current plans and tell 10News they hope their concerns will be heard and changes will be made. "We're trying to back the city off from slamming us with density and trying to get a project that meets everybody's needs," local James Lamattery said.Lamattery says the community is fighting for more affordable housing units and lower building heights. Right now, the plans call for two, four-story buildings and 16 apartment units for affordable housing. The city is reviewing plans before they vote on required permits. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Police are searching for a suspect who fled the scene of a deadly shooting near the Linda Vista Recreation Center on Sunday.San Diego Police say that officers were called to the area near 7000 Levant Street in Linda Vista just after 11 a.m. over reports of gunfire in the area. When officers arrived, they found one man who had been shot in the upper body. Officer provided first aid to the man until San Diego Fire-Rescue personnel arrived. The man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The victim has been identified but his identity was not released. He is described as a 27-year-old Hispanic man from San Diego.While officers were at the hospital, a second man arrived with an apparent gunshot wound, police said. He said that he had also been injured outside of the same recreation center. The second victim has also been identified but his name was not released. He is described as a 30-year-old man from San Diego.Police said witnesses reported seeing a man, possibly Hispanic, wearing a mask and shorts, running from the scene. He was seen getting into a small, white four-door vehicle that was last seen driving southbound on Linda Vista Road.Officers said the two victims appeared to have been near the handball courts at the recreation center when they were injured.
