ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The U.S. Naval Academy has named its first ever African American female brigade commander – Midshipman 1st Class Sydney Barber.The brigade commander is the highest leadership position within the student body and it’s held for a semester. Barber will hold the role this spring semester.Barber will be the 16th woman selected for brigade commander in the 44 years women have been attending the Naval Academy. The first female brigade commander was in the class of 1992.“Earning the title of brigade commander speaks volumes, but the title itself is not nearly as significant as the opportunity it brings to lead a team in doing something I believe will be truly special,” said Barber. “I am humbled to play a small role in this momentous season of American history.”Barber is from Lake Forest, Illinois, and is majoring in a mechanical engineering, with aspirations of commissioning as a Marine Corps ground officer.As a walk-on sprinter and hurdler of the Navy Women’s Varsity Track and Field team, Barber has lettered all three years of competing and is a USNA record holder for the outdoor 4x400m relay.Word of the announcement spread quickly after a social media post by the first Black female to graduate from USNA, Janie Mines. ANAHEIM, Calif. (KGTV) -- Disneyland announced Monday that Oga’s Cantina will start taking reservations up to two months in advance. The resort Tweeted that, starting October 21, the cantina, along with Savi’s Workshop and the Droid Depot will begin offering the reservations up to 60 days ahead of time. The announcement was followed by a tweet announcing new food coming to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. “We’ve got an intergalactic shipment of several new menu items flying into the Black Spire Outpost this week, and you won’t want to miss them,” the resort said in a blog post. The cantina is the only spot in Disneyland that serves alcohol. Those who step inside the restaurant are entertained by droid DJ R-3X, a former Starspeeder 3000 pilot, according to the resort. Andrea Constand, the key witness in the retrial of Bill Cosby on indecent assault charges, testified Friday morning that she drank wine and took three blue pills at Cosby's urging in January 2004, then lost consciousness and, sometime later, was "jolted awake" to find the entertainer sexually assaulting her."Were you able to verbalize and tell him to stop?" state prosecutor Kristen Feden asked Constand."No," she replied. ANAHEIM, Calif. (KGTV) -- A man was arrested in Santa Ana Monday in the murder of an Escondido man whose body was discovered in the trunk of a car parked in Anaheim. Orange County authorities held a news conference Wednesday announcing the arrest of Antonio Silva Lopez, 27. As SWAT teams raided the home, they discovered another man inside who had been kidnapped and was being held for ransom, KABC reports. Lopez has been charged with murder along with a felony count of kidnapping for ransom-extortion or to commit robbery or a sex crime, court records show. RELATED: Body found in trunk of abandoned car in Anaheim identified as Escondido manAuthorities also discovered roughly two kilograms of fentanyl along with multiple firearms. Lopez was sought in the death of 34-year-old Adrian Darren Bonar. Bonar’s body was discovered October 17 when an abandoned car was being prepared to be towed from Santa Ana Canyon Road in Anaheim.
