(KGTV) -- The brother of San Diego hiker Paul Hanks is talking about his ordeal in Joshua Tree National Park. The best news they have to share with the public - Hanks is expected to make a full recovery. "Sunday was his birthday, he turned 54," said Dr. Steven Hanks, his brother. "He likes to take a hike on his birthday so he had gone out to Joshua Tree National Park after spending the morning with (our) mother."RELATED: Missing San Diego hiker found injured in Joshua TreeThe 54-year-old left San Diego on Sunday, March 11. His brother said he was reported missing on Tuesday, March 13 after he failed to show up to a meeting with his ex-wife in Las Vegas. Hanks' truck was found near the Maze Loop and Hanks was found by a member of the Joshua Tree Search and Rescue crew on Thursday, March 15. According to his son-in-law, Hanks broke his ankle and fractured his skull after falling 20 feet. He was missing for four days and buried himself in the sand to stay warm, drinking rainwater to stay hydrated until he was found."He had a very harrowing experience. It's a compelling story of survival and we were just stunned when they found him," Hanks' brother said. "I think he's just incredibly thankful to be alive." When asked if he thought the experience hiker would ever return to Joshua Tree National Park, his brother said:"I think he'll absolutely go back. I do know if he goes back, he won't be going back without a satellite phone...a flare gun," he said, smiling. "He really thought he was going on a minimal risk venture. It was just one of those unfortunate accidents that occurred."      1682

(KGTV) A same-sex couple says a staffer from a private school in Solana Beach told them to not submit their son’s application.Matthew Bosse and Joe Mosca are looking at middle schools for their 10-year-old son.They say Garrett earns exceptional grades and is as much a musician as he is a lacrosse player so several friends referred them to Santa Fe Christian Schools in Solana Beach.Bosse says during a phone call he told the SFCS staff member that he was married to a man.“That’s when she essentially said the values that are taught at the home are the values that are taught at school and we don’t think your family would be a good match,” said Bosse.The family regularly attends an Episcopalian church and says they’re a same-sex couple with Christian values.“You never expect to encounter such over discrimination,” said Mosca, who is also the Deputy Mayor of Encinitas.Since Santa Fe Christian Schools is private and receives no public funding, it does not have to follow state or federal anti-discrimination laws.In a statement to 10News SFCS wrote:"While we do not provide details on matters involving students or prospective students, I can say that our policy is to encourage the family of any student committed to academic excellence and spiritual development to apply. As a matter of practice, we do not attempt to persuade or dissuade prospective families from applying. At the same time, as part of the admissions process, we make clear to prospective applicants that they will be joining a Bible-based community designed to disciple students to embrace biblical truth. (KGTV) — Riverside County health officials have announced the Stagecoach and Coachella music festivals — originally rescheduled for October — have been canceled for 2020.Citing concerns over a fall surge in coronavirus cases, Riverside County Public Health Officer Dr. Cameron Kaiser signed the order canceling the popular festivals."I am concerned as indications grow that COVID-19 could worsen in the fall. In addition, events like Coachella and Stagecoach would fall under Governor Newsom’s Stage 4, which he has previously stated would require treatments or a vaccine to enter," said Kaiser. "Given the projected circumstances and potential, I would not be comfortable moving forward. These decisions are not taken lightly with the knowledge that many people will be impacted. My first priority is the health of the community."Riverside County says it is in contact with festival organizer Goldenvoice regarding the cancelations.As of Wednesday, Goldenvoice had not issued specific guidance on refunds for the two festivals, but offers general refund guidance for concerts on its website here. 1105

A 36-year-old mother of 4 is dead after stopping along a highway in Kentucky to help another crash victim.Ana Kincart was killed Monday morning when she was struck by an oncoming car. Kincart’s stepfather, Andy Cline, remembers her as someone who would help anyone with anything they needed.“Bodacious,” he said. “Yeah, she was bubbly. Happy. Just, I guess the life of a party, almost.”Kincart witnessed a crash on I-275. Investigators say Brandon Hicks, 24, lost control of his Chevy Camaro and spun out.
