SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The brother-in-law of a woman killed in a murder-suicide in Paradise Hills spoke to 10News about her relationship with the father of her young sons.On the morning of Nov. 16, 29-year-old Sabrina Rosario and her four sons were shot by the boys' father in a home on Flintridge Drive, according to San Diego police.Rosario and three of her sons died, and the boys' father -- identified as 31-year-old Jose Valdivia -- shot himself to death after killing the family members.As of Sunday afternoon, Rosario's 9-year-old son, Ezequiel, was in an induced coma at Rady Children's Hospital.RELATED: Parents, 3 children killed in Paradise Hills murder-suicideKarl Albright, Rosario's brother-in-law, told 10News, "No one thinks it's going to happen until it's happened."Albright said he has so many questions about what led Valdivia to gun down his wife and children. According to Albright, Valdivia's infidelity broke Rosario's heart a year ago, and she decided to end things."She had made her mind up that it's over, and he didn't want to accept that," Albright said. "He wanted it back. And he tried to, the love way, and then he tried the fear way, and he tried every way in between to try to break through, but she stood her ground."Albright said Valdivia's threatening texts and stalker behavior escalated six months ago when he bragged about purchasing a gun.Albright explained Valdivia would tell Rosario, "I'm going to come over and kill myself in front of you guys. I'm going to kill you guys, then kill myself."Rosario told him that he sounded like the boy who cried wolf, according to Albright.A records search shows two cases of domestic violence in 2019. On Nov. 15, police said Rosario spent the whole day at court obtaining a restraining order against her husband.When he called that night, she told him she had no other choice. He never called back.Albright said she told him that their problems would be solved, and her children would be safe."Even what they were living in, and what she was going through in the house, she had an umbrella over the kids, and it never fazed them," Albright said.Instead, the next morning, police said the children's father came into the granny flat on Flintridge Drive and shot his wife and four children in the head before shooting himself.Rosario and 3-year-old Enzi died at the home. Five-year-old Zuriel, 9-year-old Ezequiel, and 11-year-old Zeth were rushed to the hospital. Zuriel and Zeth did not make it.Life will never be the same for relatives who live next door."Now that Thanksgiving is coming up and Christmas. We've already got Christmas gifts for the kids and for her," Albright said.Those gifts will remain under the tree in their honor."They were fun-loving. They were well-raised. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The Food and Drug Administration has recalled several types of tattoo ink after determining they were contaminated with bacteria. One of them is the popular black ink made by Dynamic Color. The FDA found that two of their lots tested positive for microorganisms. The recall includes all bottles of Scalpaink SC, Scalpaink PA, and Scalpaink AL basic black tattoo inks manufactured by Scalp Aesthetics. One lot of Color Art’s red Solid Ink-Diablo was also included. Tattoo shops across the country were contacted through their local health departments about the recall. One of the largest tattoo parlors in San Diego, SD Tattoo, says they got the email Wednesday morning and immediately searched through their inks.They did have the Dynamic black ink, but tattoo artist Nicki Ninteman said, "We checked all the lot numbers and all of ours are clean, so we’re good."She said they didn't have either of the other two brands in the shop.According to the FDA, people who have been tattooed with contaminated ink can experience rashes or lesions of red papules. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Termed-out San Diego City Councilman Scott Sherman is taking aim at what he says is too much outside influence behind the scenes at City Hall.In an interview with ABC 10News, Sherman said too many of his colleagues vote based on their own political preservation."Unfortunately, too many politicians are looking down the road and at what office they are going to run for next," Sherman said. In a recent op-ed, Sherman said in politics he has learned that handshakes and signed memos are worth a "bucket of spit." He said political gadflies, union reps, party reps and political donors are wielding too much power of council members. Sherman believes this is the reason the city still has not come to an agreement on regulating short-term rentals, and is approving labor-friendly development projects."One of the things that bothered me the most in politics is how different special interest groups can literally come down, sit in the front row, and dictate to council members what they will and won't do if they want their support in the future, and unfortunately most of them do," Sherman said. Sherman said he is the exception because he did not base his council career on a run for higher office. He did run for mayor in 2020, losing in the primary. But he said chose to run because of encouragement, and because no other Republican entered the race. Michael Zucchet, who heads the city's Municipal Employees Association, said Sherman and other politicians generally define "special interests" as those that disagree with them. "I wasn't very moved by his comments and they struck me as sour grapes," Zucchet said in an email. "It seems like pure hypocrisy to me. Not to mention baseless, transparent whining."Sherman, who represented the Mission Valley area, is now going back into insurance sales. His departure will leave Chris Cate as the only Republican on the City Council because Sherman's seat flipped to Democrat in the November election. 1978

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The coronavirus pandemic is preventing many seniors in skilled nursing facilities from seeing their families. UC San Diego students are working to help combat their loneliness with their Sunshine 4 Seniors project. Students would spend their weekends visiting seniors as part of a volunteer project before classes were canceled at UC San Diego. The pandemic halted their visits. "We came up with this project, which was creating cards for seniors at St. Paul Senior Services," says student Olivia Michael. The goal of the project is for students to "step in and fill the loneliness and isolation that the senior citizen communities are feeling, especially during this pandemic," says Morgan Montoya. The students say loneliness in seniors can have damaging effects on the brain. "Olivia and I are near-cognitive science majors," says Montoya. "Our majors really helped us to understand the problems that loneliness poses. With senior citizens having an abundance of isolation and loneliness, it can actually deregulate the brain and cause a progression of Alzheimer's or depression."The Sunshine 4 Seniors project launched nearly a month ago. So far, more than 200 cards have been sent to seniors in skilled nursing facilities. The students say there are thousands of seniors who are not allowed to see their loved ones during this time. They hope to spread some sunshine to as many seniors as they can. "The goal is just to get as many people writing cards as possible," says Michael. "Any means that you have to do it, I just encourage you to get started." 1586
