ENSENADA, Mexico (KGTV) — A San Diego dirt bike racer is recovering tonight in Mexico after a bizarre mid-race crash with a mystery SUV.On Saturday morning, about 60 miles southeast of Ensenada, 29-year-old Josear Carrasco was racing a course he knew well. On this day, he would not finish."Just devastated. It's really hard. He's my everything, so it's hard to see him like this," said his wife, Kylie.Kylie was in a truck along the course when she got the news. Josear was in second place, nearly done with his 100-mile stretch and about to turn his bike over to a teammate. That's when he says he collided with an SUV that had driven onto the course, headed toward him. "He tried to veer off to the right ... the car veered off in same direction. Then, a head-on collision. He doesn't remember anything after that," said Kylie.Josear was discovered by spectators and a teammate, with car parts scattered nearby."Something exploded. When they found him, his gear was just melted off," said Kylie.Josear suffered second-degree burns up and down the left side of his body and broken bones in his arms, legs, shoulder and shin. He also suffered a ruptured intestine, but he was alive."Once I saw him breathing, my heart dropped ... because that's all that matters," said Kylie.Josear has already undergone several surgeries at a hospital in Ensenada. His family trying to raise money for a medical transport back to San Diego, while Mexican authorities hunt for the hit-and-run driver. (KGTV) - Escondido restaurant owners made the decision to stay open for indoor and outdoor dining after a court ruled Friday evening they must be take out only.On Grand Avenue, it looked like a time warp. People were back under tents and umbrellas eating and drinking on the patio and some indoors.At Tony Pepperoni Pizzeria, the sign in the window blinked "Open.""The restaurant business isn't something you can say hey close, open, close," Tony Pepperony Pizzeria Owner Joe Locricchio said.That's exactly what he's been dealing with for the last 10 months."We have livelihoods on the line... I have single mothers okay, they need to buy diapers. I have guys that haven't had a job and they're walking out of here with money every night in tips." Locricchio said his 80+ employees are like family.Staying open hasn't come without challenges.He said he was criminally cited by Alcoholic Beverage Control and issued a cease-and-desist order by the City of Escondido.His restaurant on Grand Avenue just opened 17 days ago.When asked what he had to say to critics who think he should close and are worried about the coronavirus killing San Diegans, he said, "listen, my heart goes out to everybody that's passed away, one death is too many. To those critics who have something to say about my decision, listen I respect their decision. I respect that they have the choice to not have to come here they don't have to support me, all I ask is to support my decision."He said strangers have yelled and ranted to him about his decision.He said what is more compelling, is how the community has shown their support, "it's been an overwhelming response. She noticed while working at a restaurant, she kept bumping into things, and later became very concerned when she fell down the stairs at her home. She says her vision was fine when looking straight ahead, but was losing sight from the outside in. A doctor originally though she had a detached retina, but that wouldn't be the case."It was this rare disease and it was progressive. At the time they thought I was going to be totally blind within a year."She would lose 98% of her vision, and started to think her days as an athlete were over."The words athlete and blind were not in the same sentence for me."The treatment for her disease was to suppress the immune system, but the medication she was taking caused her to put on weight. That's when she started swimming, riding a spin bike, and jogging."Someone said your swimming, you're biking, and you're running. Have you ever thought about doing triathlons?"She thought it sounded terrifying but fun. And not only did she give it a try, she excelled."I'm currently ranked number 6 in the world and number 1 in the United States."With 98% vision loss, she has implants in her eyes to help her see. Then she was introduced to Iris Vision. A product which at first glance looks like goggles. But for Amy, it would totally change the way she trained."It increases my visual fields," she says. "My vision is super tiny, it's like looking through a straw. What's cool about Iris Vision, is it allows me to see my computer screen, and more importantly, I can now see my heart rate and what my speed is. (KGTV) - A dog owner is sharing her story after she says a neutering procedure turned into a month-long nightmare.On the morning of February 21st, Brigitte Yvon dropped off 2-year-old Yellow Lab Davie at her veterinarian in Encinitas to be neutered. Hours later, she got a call saying everything went well and she picked up her dog early that afternoon. For the next nine days, Yvon tended to him. Davie kept whimpering and trying to get at his back, but Yvon thought it was part of the recovery from the neutering. Yvon then noticed something on Davie's back."Fur was matted. Skin was raw and bleeding in places," said Yvon.She used a clipper and found more of the same under the fur. She took him to another vet, who shaved his back to reveal third-degree burns across his back. "They told me to prepare for what I was about to see. I was horrified and devastated," said Yvon.Yvon brought photos to the original veterinarian."He did apologize and admit responsibility," said Yvon. She says he didn't go into detail, but pointed to saline bags used to warm up and regulate body temperature during and after the procedure. Yvon says he agreed to pay for treatment. Yvon says the veterinarian has since filed a claim with his insurer.For Davie, the treatment has included surgery and several rounds of antibiotics. For Yvon, there have been plenty of sleepless nights. She has this message for other pet owners: Ask questions and educate yourself on the most basic of procedures.Yvon asked us not use the name of the vet, because her only goal is to increase awareness of the risks. Experts suggest asking your veterinarian how they warm up animals when anesthesia is used. Devices like warming blankets with temperature alarms are considered safer.The veterinarian who performed the procedure issued the following statement: "While I would like to respond with an accurate account of what transpired, it is my professional responsibility to respect client confidentiality. When this client called with a concern I responded immediately. I worked with her to identify how to move forward with his healing. We provided treatment for the wound and care for the pet and consulted with specialists and offered the best options, and the client was not charged. We understand that pets are part of the family. We want to make sure that our clients receive the highest level of care available. FBI Director Chris Wray told senators Wednesday that the FBI's investigation into Christine Blasey Ford's sexual assault allegation against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh was "limited in scope" and thus "consistent with the standard process."Ford accused Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her at a house party when the two were in high school. Both Ford and Kavanaugh testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee last month, prompting the weeklong FBI investigation and hundreds to protest on Capitol Hill. The Senate reviewed the FBI's findings after they were sent it last Thursday and confirmed Kavanaugh by a 50-48 vote Saturday afternoon.
