An Ohio man slated to be executed on Wednesday will be allowed to use a special wedged-shape pillow as he is put to death by lethal injection, the Columbus Dispatch reported. Alva Campbell, 69, will lie on the pillow as a three-drug cocktail will be administered to execute Campbell after he was convicted for the kidnapping and killing of an 18-year-old Columbus man. Campbell was on parole at the time after being charged with aggravated murder from a 1972 killing. According to the Dispatch, Campbell has pulmonary problems and it is difficult for him to lie flat without choking.Last week, Ohio Gov. John Kasich said that he would not put a stop to the execution, despite a clemency request by Campbell's attorney.Campbell has also requested to be executed by firing squad, citing that a prison nurse was unable to find a suitable vein for an IV. A federal judge ruled out that as an option for Campbell. The Dispatch reported, citing court records, that Campbell uses a walker, relies on an external colostomy bag and requires four breathing treatments a day. ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Students at the University of Michigan are being ordered to stay in place for two weeks after a surge of coronavirus cases driven by social gatherings on and off-campus.Local health officials said Tuesday that the surge is overwhelming their ability to confront the pandemic. Officials say coronavirus cases related to the university represent 61% of the total in Washtenaw County, compared to just 2% in August.More than 1,000 students have been infected since the start of the fall term despite limits on gatherings and classes that are mostly held online. Undergraduate students can attend in-person classes and also leave their residences for exercise, work, food, medical appointments, voting, and religious services.In response to the order, university President Mark Schlissel says even more undergraduate classes will shift to remote instruction. Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey ordered bars, gyms, movie theaters, water parks, and tubing operators to close for at least 30 days on Monday, following weeks of steady increases in positive COVID-19 test results in the state.The order, which goes into effect Monday at 8 p.m. and lasts through at least July 27, comes a week after he issued a strong warning to bars and nightclubs, specifically in Scottsdale, that were not adhering to their social distancing requirements.Ducey also limited mass gatherings to no more than 50 people ahead of the Fourth of July holiday weekend and delayed the start of school in the fall.In terms of bars, the order describes them as businesses with Series 6 or 7 liquor licenses "whose primary business is the sale or dispensing of alcoholic beverages." Those businesses can remain open for pick up, delivery, or drive-thru, the order states.Restaurants can remain open for both in-person dining, as well as takeout, delivery, and carry-out, Ducey said, but reminded them to follow the requirements he issued last week.In order for bars, water parks, tubing companies, and indoor gyms to reopen, they will have to "attest to adhere to all public health regulations, and post it for the public to see." Enforcement will be led by local health officials and authorities, Ducey said.Restaurant dining rooms, some bars, nightclubs, attractions, and movie theaters were given the OK to reopen six weeks ago when Arizona's stay-at-home orders were lifted in mid-May, in coordination with the White House's phased-in gating criteria.Reopening guidelines were issued to restaurants and businesses, including recommendations to reduce capacity and occupancy, increase cleaning, and to consider testing employees. However, enforcement of those recommendations was mostly left to the individual restaurants.On June 17, Ducey issued another executive order turning those recommendations into requirements.In recent weeks, Arizona has seen a significant increase in positive COVID-19 cases.
