SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man was hospitalized in San Diego Saturday morning after being seriously injured when he laid down in front of his friend's car during an argument and was run over, authorities said Saturday.The incident occurred at 11:15 p.m. Friday in the 5800 block of Market Street in the Emerald Hills neighborhood, according to Officer John Buttle with the San Diego Police Department.The victim argued with his friend and in an attempt to get his friend's attention, he laid down in the street in front of a car the suspect was driving and was run over, Buttle said.A friend of the victim called 911 to report the incident and the suspect got out of the car and took the friend's cell phone and told the 911 operator the victim had laid down intentionally in front of his car, then the suspect drove away from the scene, said Buttle.The victim was transported to a hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries, he said.MAP: Track crime happening in your neighborhoodThe suspect's vehicle is a 2001 burgundy Mazda 4-door with California license plate number 7XNW211. 1095

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - City officials and homeless advocates announced an expansion Tuesday of the city's program to establish safe parking lots for residents who live out of their cars or recreational vehicles.Mayor Kevin Faulconer, Councilman Scott Sherman and representatives of Jewish Family Service of San Diego jointly announced that the city will make a parking lot in Mission Valley near SDCCU Stadium available to vehicles in the next 45 days.The lot, which will also have supportive services for homeless residents, like job training, financial education and housing assistance, has space for up to 80 RVs or 200 regular cars and trucks.Jewish Family Service oversees the two existing parking lots and will do the same at the third, which is located near the intersection of Friars Road and Mission Village Drive.RELATED: San Diego program to provide safe parking for homeless living in vehicles"Often when someone becomes homeless for the first time, they end up living in their car and don't know where else to turn," Faulconer said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - An SUV struck and killed a 63-year-old woman as she was crossing a street in the Talmadge area, police said Tuesday.It happened around 5 p.m. Monday in the 4600 block of El Cajon Boulevard, between 46th and 47th streets, San Diego police Officer John Buttle said.A 79-year-old man was driving a 2008 Lexus SUV westbound on El Cajon Boulevard near Menlo Avenue when he struck the pedestrian as she was attempting to cross El Cajon Boulevard southbound outside a crosswalk, Buttle said.The woman was trapped under the SUV before crews freed her and took her to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead, the officer said.
