SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- All 289 playgrounds in the city of San Diego will reopen to the public on Saturday, Mayor Kevin Faulconer said Friday.Earlier this week, California health officials issued guidelines that allowed for the safe reopening of outdoor playgrounds in parks, campgrounds and other publicly accessible locations.The county reopened 100 of its playgrounds on Wednesday; the city of Carlsbad reopened its parks on Friday.In a statement, Faulconer said, “We already encourage families and children to recreate outdoors at beaches and parks while taking safety precautions, so there’s no reason why we can’t reopen playgrounds the same safe and responsible way. Along with other local leaders, we urged the Governor to deliver the proper guidance to make this a reality for our parents and children, and now that we can reopen we’ll do it responsibly with safety front and center.”Under the state’s guidelines, playground visitors must abide by these requirements:1. Face masks over the mouth and nose are required for everyone 2 years of age or older with caregiver supervision at all times to ensure face mask use.2. Do not use the playground when different households are unable to maintain a physical distance of 6 feet or when the capacity limit has been reached.3. Caregivers must monitor to keep adults and children from different households at least 6 feet apart.4. Consider coming on different times or days to avoid wait times and potential crowded times.5. No eating or drinking in playground, to ensure face masks are worn at all times.6. Wash or sanitize hands before and after using the playground.7. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — An Ohio man accused of pepper-spraying 11 San Diego Police officers during a demonstration last month has pleaded not guilty.Denzel Draughn, 28, pleaded not guilty on Wednesday to felony counts of unlawful use of tear gas against a peace officer and 11 felony counts of use of force against a peace officer.On Aug. 28, a group of demonstrators protesting the shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisc., marched through downtown San Diego.See Sky10 video of the demonstration below:Police say that as the group neared 9th and E Streets, a vehicle that was following the group failed to stop at red lights. After police stopped the driver, a crowd began to form near the car and officers who pulled the vehicle over.SDPD says that the group ignored demands to back up from the scene, prompting one officer to pull out pepper spray. Police say one person tried to knock the pepper spray out of the officer's hand, forcing the officer to discharge the spray.Several police officers then tried to arrest the person. As the officers were placing the person in custody, a pepper spray canister fell on the ground. Officers say Draughn picked up the canister and sprayed it twice, hitting 11 officers.SDPD says Draughn fled but was later found and arrested.If convicted, Draughn faces probation to 11 years in jail. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A semi-truck carrying boxes of grapes caught fire as it traveled down Interstate 8 in El Cajon Monday morning.Authorities received reports of a semi-truck on fire on westbound I-8 just near dunbar lane shortly after 12:30 a.m.Firefighters arrived to put the fire out and attempted to save the shipments of grapes, but it was a total lost.California Highway Patrol officials said the truck’s driver escaped unharmed.The cause of the fire is under investigation. 487

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – All known fires aboard the USS Bonhomme Richard at Naval Base San Diego have been put out, Navy officials announced Thursday afternoon.In a statement, Rear Adm. Philip Sobeck, the commander of Expeditionary Strike Group Three, said:“After four days of firefighting, all known fires have been extinguished aboard USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6).Our fire teams are investigating every space to verify the absence of fire. Until every space is checked and there are no active fires we will not be able to commence any official investigations.We did not know the origin of the fire. We do not know the extent of the damage. It is too early to make any predictions or promises of what the future of the ship will be.We cannot make any conclusions, until the investigation is complete.What we do know is that brave Sailors from commands all across San Diego worked tirelessly alongside Federal Firefighters to get this fire extinguished and I want to thank them for their efforts. This was a Navy team effort. We had support from the air and sea. Three helicopter squadrons conducted more than 1,500 water bucket drops, fighting the fire and cooling the super structure and flight deck enabling fire crews to get onboard to fight the fire. Tugs also provided firefighting support from the waterline, cooling the ship’s hull.We had 63 personnel, 40 U.S. Navy Sailors and 23 civilians, treated for minor injuries including heat exhaustion and smoke inhalation. We have no personnel hospitalized.The Navy continues to work together with regulators, county and state in protecting our environment and preparing to address the community’s concerns as we move forward to the next phase.I’d like to thank our partners from state and county, the U.S. Coast Guard, and all agencies for continued support.”Ship’s shifting leads to evacuationCrews battling the fire aboard the USS Bonhomme Richard were evacuated late Wednesday night after reported shifting of the warship.A Navy official told ABC 10News that fire teams fighting the blaze were told to clear the ship and pier shortly before 11 p.m. “out of an abundance of caution” after the vessel “naturally settled” due to the fire and water damage and was rocking slightly to one side.By 6 a.m. Thursday, Navy officials said fire crews returned to the ship to continue fighting the fire.Meanwhile, several groups are collecting supplies and other donations for those displaced by the ship fire and crews at the scene. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Seattle man injured in an ATV accident in Mexico has died in a San Diego hospital, according to his family.Chad Carrico was on a cruise October 10 when he chose to leave the ship for a day trip in Ensenada.Carrico and friends rented ATV’s, according to his mother Theresa. He had surgery at Velmar Hospital in Mexico and was placed on life support, his family said.The need to return Carrico to the United States became more pressing when his family learned he contracted a dangerous fungus on his nose that could spread to his brain.Carrico was brought back to the U.S. Tuesday night but died at a Scripps Mercy hospital hours later, his family told 10News.The family had started a GoFundMe account to raise money for Carrico's medical bills.
