We all know we could be scammed and these days it’s becoming harder and harder to tell what’s legitimate and what’s not. Phishing attack are not only increasing, they’re getting more sophisticated. Here are the main ways scammers are targeting you and what you can do to beat them at their own game.It all starts in your inbox with your email. It’s the easiest way for scammers to strike. They’re phishing for your personal info and their bait is pretty convincing.Girbin Klein is a senior security analyst and said, “These are the types that people will get into their email inbox typically that claim to be from Apple, claim to be from American Express, whatever company or bank people might be associated with."Scammers are getting more sophisticated with how they approach us. "It's claiming that you know you've won something or your accounts are being closed down because there's been some weird activity with your account," Klein added. "I mean those are the types of emails that get people's attention."Right now, fake Netflix emails are circulating. The email asks you to verify your billing information by clicking on the link. It even gives you a separate link to visit the help center. There’s also a fake email being sent out that’s claiming it’s from Apple. Recent research suggests one in four emails is trying to get your Apple ID, making it the top target of hackers. If you receive one of these emails, here’s what you should do. Never click on the link. That’s what scammers use to steal your information. Instead, if you’re really concerned, go to the company's website on your own and check things out. You can also try hovering your cursor over a link to see where it directs you, but there’s now new software that doesn’t always show you that. Finally, look at the email sender’s address. Who sent it? Are there inconsistencies? Sometimes it looks like it’s from a family member, friend or company you know, but the address doesn’t match up.Remember, just because they’re phishing doesn’t mean we have to take the bait. Something else to keep in mind is your bank will never send a generic email requesting personal information be sent back to it. Make sure you check your online accounts frequently and to install firewall, anti-virus and anti-spyware in your computer. 2308

We are now in the midst of Black Friday week (not day), during a topsy turvy pandemic year, when everything is upside down.So should you shop Wednesday night, Thanksgiving or Friday, the traditional big shopping day in malls? It all depends what you are looking for and where you prefer to shop. The big sale day will look very different this year, with almost all major retailers closed Thanksgiving night. No more day-long lines to grab a 65-inch TV at half price. But that makes timing Black Friday tough. So, we scanned the ads to find some of the key times for deals. All week long dealsBest Buy, Target, Amazon and Kohl's started their biggest sales last Sunday morning, but say they will add new deals on Thanksgiving Day, online. So, you should browse their ads and sites early and often.Wednesday night dealsAt Walmart, the key time to start shopping is Wednesday at 7 p.m., the night before Thanksgiving, this year. That's when Walmart's hottest deals go online, such 70-inch TVs for below 0.Note that its electronics deals are online only this year, not in-store.Thanksgiving Day dealsAt Kohl's, they will launch a virtual Black Friday sale at 11 p.m. Wednesday, which will run all day Thursday. While Kohl's may not always have lowest price, its bonus Kohl's Cash often makes their deal better than anyone else's on similar items.Best Buy started its sale last Sunday, but promises more items popping up Thursday.Friday dealsBlack Friday traditionalists will still want to shop Friday, either in store or online. If you want kitchen gadgets, like blenders, air fryers, and the new Instant pot Duo, Thursday and Friday will bring the biggest sales.Plus on Friday, you will be able to shop in store at Macy's, JC Penney, Target, Kohl's and more for home goods (though note that stores will be limiting crowds, so you may have to wait in the parking lot).Buy this the moment you find itBut from the doesn't that stink file, one item you should buy the instant you find it, never mind that it's not on sale. We're talking Microsoft's new XBox Series S, and Sony's new PlayStation 5, which have sold out instantly. The PS5 is now selling for as much as ,600 on eBay.The XBox is going for 0 to well over ,000. Doesn't that stink? If you see one at the list price of 9 at a store website, grab it.Walmart promises to put them online in limited batches starting Wednesday at 7 p.m., while Gamestop promises a few in each store early Friday morning. You can wait for clothing and toysFinally, if you are shopping for clothing or toys, don't worry. Prices usually drop around December 15, so you have plenty of time. That way, you don't waste your money.__________________________Don't Waste Your Money" is a registered trademark of Scripps Media, Inc. WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court has ruled that Oklahoma prosecutors lack the authority to pursue criminal cases in a large chunk of eastern Oklahoma that remains an American Indian reservation. The court’s ruling casts doubt on hundreds of convictions won by local prosecutors. The case was argued by telephone in May because of the coronavirus pandemic. The case revolved around an appeal by a Native American man who claimed state courts had no authority to try him for a crime committed on reservation land that belongs to the Muscogee (Creek) Nation. The reservation once encompassed 3 million acres, including most of Tulsa, the state’s second-largest city. 670

WASHINGTON — In an extraordinary indictment, the U.S. special counsel accused 13 Russians Friday of an elaborate plot to disrupt the 2016 presidential election, charging them with running a huge but hidden social media trolling campaign aimed in part at helping Republican Donald Trump defeat Democrat Hillary Clinton. The federal indictment, brought by special counsel Robert Mueller, represents the most detailed allegations to date of illegal Russian meddling during the campaign that sent Trump to the White House. It also marks the first criminal charges against Russians believed to have secretly worked to influence the outcome. The latest indictment does not focus on the hacking but instead centers on a social media propaganda effort that began in 2014 and continued past the election, with the goal of producing distrust in the American political process. Trump himself has been reluctant to acknowledge the interference and any role that it might have played in propelling him to the White House.RELATED: US Says Russia Behind 'Most Destructive And Costly Cyberattack'The indictment does not allege that any American knowingly participated in Russian meddling, or suggest that Trump campaign associates had more than "unwitting" contact with some of the defendants who posed as Americans during election season. It does lay out a vast and wide-ranging effort to sway political opinion in the United States. In a statement to 10News Congressman Scott Peters said:“Today’s indictments by the Special Counsel confirm that this is no hoax - the Russians interfered, influenced, and tampered with our 2016 election and they are seeking to hurt our democracy. This underscores that Mr. Mueller must be allowed to complete his investigation free from interference and that we must follow the facts wherever they lead us. It’s also another reason for the President must immediately impose the Russian sanctions approved by Congress.”  1963

WASHINGTON (AP) — The captain of a San Diego-based U.S. Navy aircraft carrier facing a growing outbreak of the coronavirus is asking for permission to isolate the bulk of his roughly 5,000 crew members on shore. The extraordinary move would take the warship out of duty in an effort to save lives. The captain of the USS Theodore Roosevelt says the spread of the disease is ongoing and accelerating. He says removing all but 10 percent of the crew is a “necessary risk” in order to stop the spread of the virus. The ship is docked in Guam. The Navy is no longer reporting the number of positive coronavirus cases on its ships. At last report, there were more than 30 COVID-19 cases on the USS Roosevelt.RELATED:Pentagon confirms first service member death linked to COVID-19COVID-19 cases on USS Theodore Roosevelt jump to 23New COVID-19 cases found in city where San Diego-based ship is dockedNavy closes San Diego Training Support Command after third coronavirus case 976
