SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego firefighters found themselves in an unusual position Thursday, battling flames inside a city water tower. The fire broke out as crews were demolishing the tower on federal property in Point Loma. Officials said some of the materials the demolition team was using to cut the tank apart caught the scaffolding on fire. “The wind today drove that fire and blew it very quickly,” a firefighter told 10News. With much of the tower covered in plastic, firefighters had to go inside, climbing through scaffolding with their hoses. “The potential for three rescues and the hook and ladder trucks out here, I thought maybe this is a serious event but they seem to have it completely under control,” said neighbor Casey Schnoor. Firefighters spent the afternoon hosing down the rest of the tower as a precaution. 839

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police need help finding a man accused of burglarizing a boat and leaving behind a meth pipe and his own feces. The owner of the boat, Donnie Vachon, is still trying to pick up the pieces since it happened. He's out thousands of dollars due to damage and stolen property."Put it in perspective, it's just a boat, but it's our boat, it's our family's boat, it's my grand-babies boat," said Vachon.The theft happened in September and since then Vachon has heard of two more boat burglaries.He says the same off-brand soda can was left on both his boat and one of the others burglarized."It's kind of a heartbreaker, you wake up and go to work every day and here it sits," said Vachon, looking at the boat parked in the driveway.Detectives have not yet confirmed whether the burglaries are connected but are looking into it.If you have any information, contact Crime Stoppers. San Diego placed 11th among 50 other cities around the U.S., but America's Finest City wasn't alone. Los Angeles was ranked 2nd on the list. The company says all areas of the U.S. are prone to subterranean termites, but Pacific U.S. and coastal regions of the Southeast also have the threat of drywood termites.
