DEERFIELD, Ill. – Walgreens says it’s partnering with a primary care company to open full-service doctor's offices at hundreds of its drugstores.The pharmacy chain announced Wednesday that an expanded partnership with VillageMD will allow them to open 500 to 700 “Village Medical at Walgreens” primary care clinics in more than 30 markets in the next five years. They intend to build hundreds more after that.Most of the clinics will be approximately 3,300 square feet each, with some as large as 9,000 square feet. Walgreens says they will optimize existing space in stores, which will also still provide a range of retail products to customers.Walgreens says the clinics will integrate the pharmacist as a critical member of VillageMD’s multi-disciplinary team to deliver quality health care to patients. The clinics will also be staffed by more than 3,600 primary care providers, who will be recruited by VillageMD.The clinics will accept a wide range of health insurance options and offer comprehensive primary care across a broad range of physician services, according to Walgreens.To help those who struggle to find health care providers, the company says more than 50% of clinics will be located in medically underserved areas designated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.“These clinics at our conveniently located stores are a significant step forward in creating the pharmacy of the future, meeting many essential health needs all under one roof as well as through other channels,” said Stefano Pessina, executive vice chairman and CEO, Walgreens Boots Alliance.“In the U.S., we spend trillion per year on health care, over 85% of that is tied to patients with chronic diseases. DEL MAR (KGTV) — A historic summer season at the Del Mar racetrack is wrapping up Monday, the first season without fans in the stands in the track’s history.But even with all the changes forced by the pandemic, the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club says summer 2020 was a success.With no fans in attendance, the Thoroughbred Club says it missed out on about million in concessions and other on-track revenue this season. However, that was offset by lower staffing costs and an uptick in gambling revenue, according to Craig Dado, the club’s chief marketing officer.“We’re really happy with the numbers we’re getting and we will be able to eek out a small profit this year,” Dado said.Gambling revenues jumped about 7 percent thanks to off-track activity, Dado said, which is where the vast majority of bets are typically placed anyway. Anyone can bet on a Del Mar race using an app.“Basketball was delayed. Baseball was delayed, so a lot of people turned to horse racing, and we’re happy they did,” he said.The season had its hurdles. In July, the track canceled a weekend of racing after 15 jockeys and seven other workers tested positive for COVID-19.Last weekend, a horse was hurt during racing and had to be put down, the first death during racing at Del Mar since 2018.“To only have one in two racing seasons is a phenomenal number and we will definitely be the safest track in North America, as we have been the last two years,” Dado said.Dado attributed the track’s safety record to protocols adopted three years ago.But there are still questions about the kinds of pandemic protocols that will be in place when the November season begins.“At this point, we have no idea what’s going to happen in November,” he said. “Things are starting to open up in San Diego County. DEL MAR (KGTV): The Del Mar Racetrack will open it's fall season Friday afternoon, it's the fifth year of the Bing Crosby Racing Season."You got 16 days to basically, do everything," says CEO Joe Harper.The shorter season features smaller crowds and smaller fields, but trainer Peter Miller says that's part of its charm."It's easy to get a drink. It's easy to get a bet down. It's easy to watch the races. It's better," he says. "And it's better to train the horses on this kind of a laid back, easy going situation."Miller's horses won 31 races at Del Mar over the summer. He hopes to have similar success over the next month.Around the track, Harper says betters can have success by getting more access to horses and betting lines."It's a short meet. It's full of good horses and good racing. It's a local's meet, which I love, a little less hectic than the summer," says Harper.The track has 16 days of racing planned, and every day has some kind of theme, festival or concert. DEHESA, Calif. (CNS) - A man was killed Monday morning when his car struck a fire hydrant and overturned off the side of a rural road east of El Cajon.The crash happened around 5:30 a.m. on Dehesa Road, west of Sloane Canyon Road, California Highway Patrol Officer Travis Garrow said.The driver was westbound on Dehesa Road when, for unknown reasons, his 2001 Toyota Camry crossed into the eastbound lanes, then struck a fire hydrant on the south side of the road and overturned, Garrow said.The motorist, who was not immediately identified, was pronounced dead at the scene, the officer said. 601
