Don’t expect BLM and social justice messages on basketball courts or jerseys in the NBA next season, according to league Commissioner Adam Silver.The 2020 NBA season has gotten a lot of attention for both the league’s response to the coronavirus pandemic with a “bubble” and their public embrace of social justice issues and the Black Lives Matter movement this summer.During a NBA Countdown interview on ESPN ahead of a playoff game earlier this week, Silver was asked about the league championing social justice and civil rights, but as Silver noted in a press conference recently, that has not been universally popular.“How committed are you to being that going forward?” host Rachel Nichols asked.Silver quickly responded, “We’re completely committed to standing for social justice and racial equality. It’s part of the DNA of this league.”He then said changes could come in how that commitment is manifested. The commissioner acknowledged the league has to sit down with the players and discuss for next season.“I would say in terms of the messages you see on the court on our jerseys, this was an extraordinary moment in time, when we began the discussions with the players and what we all lived through this summer,” Silver said.In July, when the league restarted their 2020 season from a so-called bubble in Orlando, “Black Lives Matter” was painted on the court floor. Players, coaches and staff stayed in Orlando this summer and drastically limited contact with the outside world and other people, in order to stop the spread of the coronavirus.Also this season, players were allowed to put slogans or phrases on their jerseys to highlight causes they support.The league was also the first large sports group to protest playing games in the wake of the shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Instead, many teams and other leagues spent time focused on social justice issues.Blake is a black man who is now recovering at a rehabilitation center after being shot several times in the back by a police officer.So, what can fans expect in the 2021 season?“My sense is there will be some sort of return to normalcy. That those messages will largely be left to be delivered off the floor. And I understand those people who are saying ‘I’m on your side, but I want to watch a basketball game,’” Silver said.As for when the next season will start, Silver says everyone with the league needs a rest, mentally and physically, and they don’t have an exact start date at this time. EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - An El Cajon police officer's encounter with a group spray-painting graffiti ended in remarkable fashion early Wednesday morning.Sgt. Mike Murphy was on patrol around 2 a.m. when he got a radio call reporting people in dark clothing tagging along Heart Drive."Saw three males with dark clothing. Hit them with a spotlight and told them to have a seat, which they all did," said Sgt. Murphy.Two other patrol officers were called to the scene. The three men in their late 20s had spray paint under their nails, with fresh paint on the sidewalk and the wall of a business. Sgt. Murphy decided to take a closer look."I saw messages, not of hate, but of peace and love ... the peace sign and 'BLM.' Just had a discussion. 'You're not trying to say anything mean or hateful. Why did you choose a wall?' I understand the frustration of everything going on. Talked about, if this happened to their house, would they be upset? They apologized, and all agreed the avenue they chose was a wrong one. And they came up with, 'What if we fix this?' I said, 'I'd like to help you with that,'" said Sgt. Murphy.Sgt. Murphy, who says he had enough to make an arrest, decided to let them go and asked them meet at the same location that same evening, where he would help them clean up."Having them arrested, how is that going to help the message they're trying to put out? The vandalism would still be on the wall," said Murphy.At 7 p.m. Wednesday, the three men showed up with paint and rollers. Together with Sgt. Murphy, they painted over the graffiti."These men were true to their word. What better way to show not just how the department treats its citizens, but how the citizens treat our city. We all make mistakes, and sometimes we have to be given the opportunity to come back from a mistake," said Sgt. Murphy.The three men have decided to they will create a plywood art installation. Sgt. EL CAJON (KGTV) - A San Diego woman said she paid thousands for an SUV she picked up from an East County used car dealership, but she still can't get behind the wheel. Chika Starks said she currently does not have the vehicle because the business shut down.She moved to San Diego with her toddler shortly after her husband died.“I’m a single mother,” Starks told Team 10. “Having a car was for my convenience. To help my life, my son’s life.”She and her mother-in-law found a 2007 Jeep Commander in January on Craigslist, sold by Carbox, Incorporated on El Cajon Boulevard.“The price was right,” Starks said.It cost her ,500. Starks said there was an unusual way to process the payment--an employee ran the credit card through a La Jolla restaurant, Olive and Basil. She said the employee told her it was a family business.Starks told Team 10 there were problems shortly after she paid for it. First, she said the key fob was not working correctly. Then, with the car driven about 40 miles, there were more issues. She said a mechanic told her the catalytic converter needed to be replaced, along with the vehicle’s computer. On top of that, she was told the smog check failed. Starks also said the title was never transferred to her name.When Team 10 checked the car’s registration in September, it was still registered to Carbox, Inc. Starks blames the owner for broken promises.“It’s stressful. A lot of money,” Starks said. According to the DMV, a used car dealer has 30 days to transfer title to the new owner. The penalty is if it is not transferred. A DMV spokesman said it is an additional if the total application does not clear within a certain time. The DMV confirmed there is an open investigation into Carbox.“This place is not really honest to us,” Starks told Team 10.There is now a new car dealership in the old Carbox location. The man who runs the new business told Team 10 he worked for Carbox’s former owner, Peyman Abdipoorzahandeh. Abdipoorzahandeh's name is listed on the Secretary of State filing for Carbox.Team 10 contacted Abdipoorzahandeh in mid-October. The former owner would not grant an in-person interview until mid-November, but told Team 10 over the phone that he is working with a DMV investigator and that this is “not a normal situation.” He did not explain the title transfer delay of nearly 10 months. He said he is not doing anything illegal and said he is trying to help Starks get her money back.That is what Starks hopes for.“I don’t want other people to go through what I went through,” she said.Hal Rosner with Rosner, Barry & Babbitt specializes in auto fraud. He says consumers should run not only a Carfax report, but also a report through AutoCheck and the National Motor Vehicle Title Transfer Information System (NMVTIS) to check a vehicle's history.If a dealership goes bankrupt, Rosner said there are options for consumers. Rosner said every car lot is required to have a ,000 bond. You can contact the DMV and get the bond information to make a claim. If the dealer assisted in obtaining your financing, Rosner said the loan company or bank is required to return your money through what's called the "Holder Rule."Rosner added that consumers can also contact the victim's restitution fund if you are dealing with a closed dealership. 3354
