BEIJING, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said on Thursday that China and Germany should join hands to combat trade and investment protectionism.     The premier made the remark during a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in which the two leaders also discussed bilateral ties and other issues of common concern.     Wen said cooperation between China and Germany, both among the world's major economies, is developing smoothly in a variety of fields.     He said the two sides should continue to handle their relations from a strategic and long-term perspective, and keep up high-level exchanges. The two nations, Wen said, also should strengthen communications and coordination to push for a healthy and stable development of their bilateral ties.     China, Wen said, always adheres to a win-win strategy in opening to the outside world and insists on the maintenance of a fair and open market environment. He said China would never discriminate against foreign enterprises or products.     The premier said China's determination to cope with climate change is firm, its operations active, and its measures effective. China, Wen said, is ready to enhance collaboration with Germany in developing new and renewable energy and maximizing energy efficiency.     China also will participate in related negotiations and work with other countries to help bring about positive results at the December UN Conference on Climate Change in Copenhagen, Wen said.     Merkel said Germany is very satisfied with the development of China-Germany relations. She said Germany is ready to work with China to maintain high-level exchanges, strengthen trade and economic cooperation, and oppose trade and investment protectionism.     Germany also is prepared to jointly deal with the challenges brought about by the global financial crisis and advance bilateral ties, she said.     Merkel said she hoped that the two countries would strengthen communications and jointly tackle the issue of climate change.

BEIJING, July 1 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao called for attention to "institutional and management loopholes" discovered in the auditing of central government budget in 2008 here Wednesday.     Wen made the comment at the executive meeting of the State Council, China's Cabinet.     All related authorities should take more effective measures to correct these problems, including revising the budget law, strengthening the monitoring and supervision of the new investment projects of the central government, and enhancing transparency in government affairs, Wen said.     He also called for establishment of accountability mechanism and building of effective monitoring, alarm, emergency system directing at major economic risks.     The correction result should be reported to the State Council by the end of October, Wen said.     Wen also said that the execution and management of the central budget had made substantial improvement in general, and highlighted the importance of audit supervision.     The meeting also approved plans to develop the coastal economic belt in northeastern Liaoning Province in an effort to rejuvenate the traditional industrial base.     The zone comprises coastal cities of Dalian, Dandong, Jinzhou, Yingkou, Panjin and Huludao, which opened navigation services to more than 140 countries and regions.     The economic zone should work to boost the opening up of northeast China, promote the shipping and logistics services, and push for the development of advanced manufacturing in the area.

China would support Timor-Leste's development by all means, he said.     He expressed gratitude to Timor-Leste for its adherence to the one-China policy, and its support on issues concerning China's core interest. URUMQI, July 8 (Xinhua) -- More than 100 overseas media organizations came to Urumqi, capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, to report Sunday's riot, a press official said Wednesday.     "All media organizations are welcome to report the riot," said Hou Hanmin, spokeswoman for the Xinjiang regional government and in charge of the press center in Haide Hotel in downtown Urumqi.     "We will do our best to provide convenience for reporters while ensuring their safety," said Hou.     "We hope every media reports the incident objectively through close observation of the truth," she said.     The riot, which occurred Sunday evening in Urumqi, has left 156dead and more than 1,000 others injured.     Wu Nong, a press center worker, said the center had technicians to deal with communication problems for journalists. It has interpreters of English and Uygur languages.
