(KGTV) -- Thursday, the world’s first autonomous robotic kitchen assistant, Flippy, made its debut.Flippy will begin working alongside kitchen staff at CaliBurger’s Pasadena location.Flippy will, of course, be flipping burger patties and removing them from the grill.The robotic arm was created by Miso Robotics, a company that specializes in robotics and artificial intelligence solutions.The company also developed Miso AI, a cloud-connected learning platform that powers the robotic arms.The technology can detect when the raw burger patties are places on the grill and monitors each one as it cooks.Miso AI displays cooking time and alerts staff when it’s time to place the cheese on top of the patty or dress the burger. 755

The victim was unlocking his vehicle when an unknown Hispanic male walked up behind him and placed a "cold, metal object" against the back of his head.The suspect demanded the keys to the vehicle in Spanish and the victim complied. Police in Paris have fired tear gas and used water cannon against protesters on the Champs Elysées, in the center of the French capital.The "yellow vest" protests, which began as a campaign against rising gas prices, have morphed into a wider demonstration against the government of President Emmanuel Macron in recent weeks.Police say they have mobilized 3,000 officers in Paris to contain the 8,000 protesters. A security perimeter has been set up in the city center, with government buildings protected. Three people have been arrested so far.At a news conference on Saturday, French Interior Minister Christophe Castaner blamed the clashes on far-right extremists infiltrating the demonstrations."Today, the far right has mobilized," he told reporters. Police departments across the country have been getting more diverse, but there are conversations happening now about further improving diversity in new officer hiring.A new analysis from The Washington Post finds many major police forces are still whiter than the communities they serve.For example, in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, 49% of residents are racial minorities, but 83% of officers are white. And in Philadelphia, 77% of the population is non-white, but 59% of officers are white.University of Maryland criminal justice professor Maria Velez has been researching the impact of this as it relates to crime.“In communities that are predominantly African American, as percentage black goes up in a neighborhood, that's often been thought of as a risk factor for violent crime, but what we find is that in cities where there is, representation in terms of the city council, having a black mayor, having a civilian review board, having prior levels of unrest actually renders that relationship insignificant,” said Velez.She says when cities have more minorities on their police force, that signals accountability and receptiveness. And that filters down to the neighborhood level where it starts to create a sense of trust.“At the end of the day, this is good for both the communities and the police right, because the police need to be able to do the work that they need to do to help with things related to crime, but they can only do that if the community trusts them and is willing to engage with them and work with them,” said Velez.She stresses having more black and Latino officers is a step in the right direction. PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. — As the coronavirus continues to grip parts of South Florida, there are growing concerns over hospitalizations and the numbers of intensive care unit beds available.Last week the Sunshine State hit another grim milestone with more than 1,800 hospitalizations — the highest in a single day since the start of the pandemic, according to state records.Many hospitals are taking action against the record-setting numbers.Some hospitals in the state, including Bethesda East, Bethesda West and Boca Raton Regional Center in South Florida, are now rescheduling elective procedures that require overnight stays to help free up space.In Florida, 56 hospital ICUs have hit capacity and another 35 hospitals show ICU bed availability of 10% or less.As of Wednesday morning, many Palm Beach County hospital ICUs were reportedly near capacity.Florida Gov. Ron Desantis said hospitals are seeing more patients who are coming in for other reasons and then learning they have COVID-19. He added that is part of the reason the positive numbers are rising."People didn't all of the sudden stop having heart attacks," DeSantis said.
