SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A red flag warning has been issued for a large swath of San Diego County amid windy, dry conditions. The warning lasts through 6 p.m., Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. Winds will pick up throughout the day Sunday along coastal mountain slopes and through valley corridors below passes and canyons. Strong winds are also expected over the Inland Empire below the Cajon Pass. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A pet parrot gave its owner quite the scare after flying up into a tall tree in La Jolla.The owner, Katie Anthony, said she camped under the tree all night worried about her African Grey parrot named "Sidekick." Anthony said the bird is domesticated and not used to being in the wild.Anthony called the San Diego Fire Department and crews came out to investigate. SDFD Capt. Margot Johnson - who was retiring Wednesday - climbed up to retrieve the bird, but it took a couple tries to get it down. At one point, another firefighter fought off a falcon in the process."We really appreciate it and very very thankful because we didn't think we were ever going to see him again," Anthony said.Sidekick is now safe and sound. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A pillar to the community and a San Diego civic icon Reverend George Walker Smith has died at 91. For six decades, Rev. Smith was a trailblazing leader in the African American community. Smith also led Christ United Presbyterian Church of San Diego for decades. Those who were lucky enough to cross paths with him say he was kind to all. "We kind of thought of Rev. Smith as the black godfather of San Diego, and of this church, because he helped so many people," said Delores McNeely, a church member of 30 years. He was the first African American to be elected in the city when he won the race for the San Diego Board of Education in 1963. Rev. Smith started the Catfish Club, whose weekly lunches were a gathering spot for those interested in civic or political issues. "All the political leaders in the community came, and we had this huge forum, and they listened to him. And if something were going on in the community, the first person that they would call was Rev. Smith," said McNeely.McNeely says the forums started at the church but then moved to Channel 10 when attendance got too large. "His legacy is going to help the community to grow, everything he did, and wanted to do," said McNeely.Members of the congregation spoke to 10News Sunday. "He was a person who would never say no to anyone if you asked him to do. If he couldn't do it, he found someone who could," Jewel Kelley, a member of the church said. Rev. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A person is back in ICE custody and in isolation after they were taken to Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center to be evaluated for possible coronavirus symptoms.The individual was in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement when officials determined the person needed to be taken to Sharp Chula Vista, the county said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A heartbroken mother is making a plea for tips after a burglar makes off with a computer with with "priceless memories."An upset Sheila Conway shared her story with 10News, weeks after she returned to her home on Norwich Street to a break-in. It appears the burglar opened an unlocked outer door, before somehow opening another door. Taken were Conway's purse and her silver HP laptop. Inside that computer: A lifetime of memories of her only child, her son Tyler Peckham. Tyler, diagnosed with schizophrenia, took his own life in 2014 at the age of 26. Just off the kitchen is a wall memorial dedicated to Tyler, filled with photos showing Tyler growing up into adulthood. Conway says the computer contained hundreds of photos, most of them not backed up. “Cried a lot and just furious. It wasn’t a laptop, but memories that were stolen … everything from baby pictures to adult photos that I’ll never see again,” said Conway.
