A trip to "The Happiest Place On Earth" turned into a nightmare, according to an Inland Empire woman who spent two nights at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim. Ivy Eldridge was a guest at the hotel back in April, when she claims she was bitten by bed bugs, suffering physical, financial and emotional damages, according to a complaint filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court. Eldridge has hired attorney Brian Virag, who specializes in bedbug litigation, to bring a lawsuit against the hotel, along with the Walt Disney Co. and Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. Virag claims that Eldridge was bitten all over her upper body, including her face, ears, arm, neck and back. "People put trust in the Disney name and pay top dollar to stay at the Disneyland Hotel," Virag said. "In this case, Ms. Eldridge's trust was betrayed." Virag is also currently representing Victoria's Secret model Sabrina Jales St. Pierre, in a bed bug related lawsuit being brought against Embassy Suites Palm Desert. "Bed bugs don't discriminate," Virag said. "They are found in hotels throughout the country and worldwide. A new study takes a closer look at the impact the amount of time children spend on cell phones, computers and TV is having on their brains.“What they're finding, or what they're reporting, is that more screen time--in fact a lot of screen time, around 7 hours a day--is associated with changes in the brain and changes in cognition,” says Rachel Barr, a developmental psychologist.Dr. Barr studies the impact TVs, computers and cell phones can have on young children.Kids between the ages of 8 and 12 spend generally six hours a day, while teens are spending nearly nine hours.While Dr. Barr agrees too much time can have negative impacts, she points out what children watch on their devices matter.“Exposure to education programing in younger children is associated with better outcomes and especially for children who are growing up in low resourced communities,” Dr. Barr explains.As for what parents can do: set time limits and ground rules, like keeping screens out of the bedroom, which can make it easier for children to fall and stay asleep.“Setting up this family media plan, being mindful of your own media use and your child's media use, even though you're being bombarded by all of these changes in media yourself,” suggests Dr. Barr. 1254

A New Jersey man who won a 8 million Powerball jackpot in 2013 has been charged with sexually assaulting a child.According to NJ.com, Pedro Quezada of Wayne, was charged with two counts of first-degree sexual assault and one count of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child.Prosecutors say Quezada assaulted the victim for three years when the child was between the ages of 11 and 14 when he lived in nearby Passaic.Quezada won a 8 million jackpot in March 2013 when he purchased the winning ticket at a Passaic liquor store. He took his winnings in a lump sum, meaning he took home 1 million after taxes.At the time of his win, Quezada told CNN the money would not “change his heart.”At the time of his Powerball victory, CNN reported that Quezada was married with five children. However, it was later revealed that Quezada was not actually married — though the woman who he claimed was his wife sued him, saying the lottery ticket was purchased with the couple’s shared assets. A plan to raise San Diego's hotel tax to expand the convention center appears to be headed to the March 2020 ballot. The City Council voted 5-4 Monday to formalize its intention to place the tourist tax hike on next year's primary election. The measure, called "Yes! For a better San Diego," would raise the transient occupancy tax by as much as 3.25 percent per night, depending on location. Hotels closest to the heart of the city would see the tax rate increase the most. The revenue would fund a convention center expansion, homeless services and road repair. The council was split on its decision because voters passed Measure L in 2016. Measure L called for citizens initiatives to be placed on November general elections, when turnout is highest. However, the measure gave the City Council the option to move votes to different elections if it sees fit. It is still unclear whether the measure needs a simple majority or two-thirds support. The City Council is expected to formally place the tourist tax increase on the March ballot when it calls for the election in the fall. 1092
