The elder Hunter remembered San Ysidro during his early years in Congress in the 1980s and 1990s. "The border was a no-man's land. And everybody knows that here, that you didn't go to the border when it was close to being dark," Hunter Sr. said. Border Patrol statistics showed in 1986, San Diego agents apprehended nearly 630,000 people attempting to cross the border illegally. But double-layer fencing dropped that number to close to 32,000 arrests in 2016. They also argued that crime numbers dipped, and the economy boomed in that time. Because of these, both Hunters said they support the President's Border Wall plan. "If you can move troops to Syria, then you can move troops to the border, and build a wall on the border, and say it is in the interest of national security," the current Congressman said. But Friday, a federal judge temporarily blocked the President's plan to transfer military funds to build more border fencing. This was something that the Congressman did not agree with. "His lawyers need to fight it. They need to do it now, and it should go up to the Supreme Court," Hunter said. Hunter also told the audience at Ramona MainStage that he is on board with the President's new merit-based immigration policy. "You get to come here, if you're worth having here," Hunter Jr. said. "I know that sounds mean, but just because you want to come here from another country, doesn't mean you get to."When asked about agricultural and construction jobs, Hunter Jr. admitted that they need to work on special provisions."We understand the needs especially in California and other agricultural states, where they need people to work here, and most Americans don't want those jobs, and they're not going to to do those jobs," Hunter said. "So how do you do that? how do you do it so that the people who are coming here can't be taken advantage of, so they have to go home and check in?" he asked. 2235

President Donald Trump's administration plans to propose a new rule Friday that would bar abortions at facilities receiving federal family planning funds, according to two people familiar with the plans -- a move aimed squarely at Planned Parenthood, which accepts some federal money for non-abortion services.Long sought by conservatives, the step would take the administration's push to curtail abortions further. (CNS) - A teenage boy was fatally struck by a pickup truck while riding a skateboard on a residential road in the San Diego Country Estates neighborhood of Ramona, authorities said Wednesday.The fatality occurred around 7:20 p.m. Tuesday on Barona Mesa Road near La Plata Court, in a neighborhood south of San Vicente Road, California Highway Patrol Officer Jeff Christy said.Two teenage boys were riding skateboards to the east in the eastbound lane of Barona Mesa Road and another teen was riding a bicycle eastbound in the westbound lane, Christy said. He said that when a 20-year-old Ramona man driving a 2001 Ford F-150 eastbound on Barona Mesa Road came around a left-hand curve in the road, the front of the truck one of the boys, who was riding his skateboard in the middle of the eastbound lane.The driver stopped immediately and began rendering medical aid to the victim, the officer said. Medical personnel also responded, but the youth was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was withheld pending family notification.Intoxication was not a factor in the crash, Christy said. 1112

Property manager Brandon Scholten is seeing big price drops in some of his listings since COVID-19 hit.“We’re at ,040 but we started at above ,300,” Scholten said about a two-bed, two-bath townhouse in downtown Denver.Scholten, the owner of Keyrenter Property Management Denver, says some of his downtown rental properties are staying on the market 20% longer and that prices have dropped nearly 20% compared to the same time last year. And he believes the plummet is linked to the pandemic.“Especially with so many remote work options now,” Scholten said. “I think all of it is just going to push that pressure outward and you’ll see prices fall in the urban corridor.”What’s Scholten is seeing in downtown Denver is happening to other major metropolitan areas across the country.“The pandemic has shifted the demand for rentals away from these really expensive areas,” said Crystal Chen, a marketing manager with Zumper an apartment rental tracker.Zumper’s recent national rent report found one-bedroom rent prices in San Francisco fell nearly 12% year-over-year, the largest drop that city’s ever seen.Other major cities that saw decline in rent prices are New York, Boston and San Jose.
