JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi lawmakers are taking steps to erase the Confederate battle emblem from the state flag. The symbol has come under criticism amid nationwide protests against racial injustice. The House voted Saturday to file a bill to remove the symbol that many see as racist. A committee would design a new flag including the words “In God We Trust.” Voters would decide in November whether to endorse that design. Mississippi has used the same flag for more than 125 years. Judge Amy Coney Barrett's Supreme Court confirmation hearing was beset by technical issues on Wednesday afternoon, as the Senate Judiciary Committee was forced to take two recesses when microphones in the room went dead.The issues began at 2 p.m. ET, about five hours into day two of questioning. Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Connecticut, was in the process of beginning his 20 minute period of questioning went microphones stopped working.The committee went into recess for about half an hour as Capitol maintenance workers attempted to fix the issue. KANSAS CITY, Mo. --  Most people quit their jobs by submitting a resignation letter or simply not showing up, but one local man is going viral for the unique way he quit at an area Popeyes.Cedrick Workuff grabs a microphone before he heads into the Popeyes near 103rd and State Line Rd. Tuesday afternoon. "I come in here and slave all the time," he says in the now-viral video. "They think I'm going to go in there and be like 'I quit, I quit.' No, I'm about to go in there and sing."Followed by his friend, Marco Summers, who is recording on his phone, Workuff grabs a microphone and heads to the door. "Excuse me, sir," Workuff said as he squeezes past a customer at the door. "I'm about to quit my job today." In the next few minutes, Workuff improvises a catchy song as the chuckling customers and confused employees stare on. Since the video was posted Tuesday afternoon, it's earned over 72800 views and nearly 13,000 shares. So what's the story behind the viral video? In an interview with 41 Action News, Workuff revealed he didn't even work at the Popeyes in the first place. Summers says he made the video to spread positivity and make people laugh."It's something me and Marco wanted to put in the works," said Summers. "It wasn't planned. It was all improvised. Only the idea was planned." Summers says he's made several other videos that have been shared by celebrities and TV shows like 'Right This Minute.'He gets his inspiration from his own experiences."I've been through most of the stories I talk about. Instead of letting them damage me, I make them something funny," Summers said. KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The man whose wife was found dismembered in two ice coolers has been charged in connection with dismembering and abandoning her body. Justin Rey is accused of abandonment of a corpse and endangering the welfare of a child.  Lenexa police officers went to U-Haul on October 24 to check on Rey and his two children, who were reportedly sleeping in a storage unit. During the investigation, a woman’s remains were found in the unit. Court documents officially identified the remains as Rey’s wife. The documents said Rey’s wife, who family identified as Jessica Monteiro Rey, was found dismembered in coolers. According to court records, Rey was dragging several containers at the U-Haul facility when police spoke to him. Rey told officers his wife died after childbirth several days earlier, and her body was in the two containers. Court documents said Rey told police he spent two days with his wife’s body before dismembering her. Rey told detectives his two children were in the hotel room as he dismembered and disposed of his wife’s body. Prosecutors requested a bond of 0,000 cash. Rey is in custody in Johnson County. The Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office said the case remains under investigation.  1281
