New research has found American workers took an average of 17.2 days of vacation in 2017, up almost a half-day from 2016.Project: Time Off, who are affiliated with the U.S. Travel Association, says "this marks the highest level for American vacation usage since 2010 (17.5 days) and more than a full-day increase since bottoming out at 16 days in 2014."But maybe these aren't enough days as 52 percent of Americans left an "accumulated 705 million unused days" in 2017, which has increased from 662 million in 2016.How? A Black Lives Matter group had gathered waiting for a caravan of President Donald Trump supporters that never showed.Meanwhile, hundreds of vehicles draped with flags and banners in support of Trump snarled traffic around the New York metropolitan area Sunday.According to The Associated Press, a large caravan of Trump supporters traveled through Rockland and Westchester counties and Queens, in some cases stopping traffic without further incident.In addition, videos posted online showed hundreds of vehicles at a standstill around noon in the northbound express lanes of the Garden State Parkway near Lakewood, New Jersey. Thanks to science, some Wisconsin apartment complexes are finding out exactly what dog, and what owner is responsible for those unattended piles. "It resolved issues immediately," said Ed Muisenga, the property manager at Prairie Grass Living in Pewaukee. He says they implemented the dog DNA policy from the beginning. It's built into their pet policy so when dogs move in, their cheeks are swabbed and their DNA stored in a registry through the company PooPrints Wisconsin.Then if Muisenga finds any waste that hasn't been picked up, they can send it to a lab to be tested, and eventually matched to one of the resident's dogs. "A lot of people thought it was a cool idea, I do too," he said. "It was kind of something I thought was funny in the beginning but it made a lot of sense." Diane and Frank Busateri don't live in a complex with this policy but nearby. They said most dog owners in their community are responsible. "It's kind of weird," said Diane. "I think it's unnecessary if people are willing to cooperate with each other," added Frank. If the DNA test proves an owner didn't pick up their dog's poop, the Prairie Grass Living complex imposes a fee that's between 0 and 0. But for the most part, the policy leads to more accountability, according to Anna Schloesser, the owner of PooPrints Wisconsin. She says they have 60 properties in the state using this service and most property owners have reported very little issue with waste left behind. "You have 'he said she said' and you can't figure out who did it," she said. "This is just an easy way to pinpoint where it came from and solve the problem."The company says some municipalities are even considering implementing a similar policy, so waste left behind in parks or other public places could also be tracked.  1942

NEW YORK (AP) — A statue of late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg will be built in her native Brooklyn. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the memorial Saturday. Ginsburg died Friday of complications from metastatic pancreatic cancer at age 87. A legal trailblazer and champion of women’s rights, she became the high court’s second female justice in 1993. Cuomo, a Democrat, said that he’ll appoint a commission to choose an artist and oversee the selection of a location for the statue. Ginsburg was born in Brooklyn in 1933 and grew up in the borough’s Flatbush neighborhood. 596

NEWMAN, Calif. (KGTV and AP) - Newman Police Chief Randy Richardson had tears in his eyes Thursday as he talked about the grief in his department over the loss of Corporal Ronil Singh. Singh, 33, was shot early Wednesday morning, a few minutes after radioing that he was pulling over a gray pickup truck that had no license plate in Newman, a town of about 10,000 people some 100 miles southeast of San Francisco. He died at a hospital. Singh was one of 12 Newman Police officers. “My department is hurting,” said Richardson at a morning news conference. “We’re not an agency; we’re a family.” Watch the news conference:The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department took over the investigation from Newman Police, releasing surveillance photos of a man seen at a convenience store just before Singh’s murder. Officials pleaded for information about the attacker's identity from the public, and the California Highway Patrol sent an alert to smartphones Wednesday asking drivers to keep an eye out for the pickup truck. A truck believed to have been the one stopped by Singh was later found in a garage in a mobile home park about 4 miles from the shooting, where law enforcement officers were serving a search warrant, The Modesto Bee reported. "He loved camping, loved hunting, loved fishing, loved his family." On his Facebook page, Ronil Singh posted pictures on Christmas Eve from a deep-sea fishing trip that produced a big haul of crabs and fish. His profile picture shows him smiling as he stands at a patrol car with his K9 partner, Sam — the same photograph of the officer released by the Sheriff's Department. “He will never see his son walk,” Chief Richardson said. Outgoing California Gov. Jerry Brown offered condolences to Singh's family and said flags at the Capitol would fly at half-staff in his honor. "Our hearts are with the entire community of Newman and law enforcement officers across the state who risk their lives every day to protect and serve the people of California," Brown said.
