Complaints are growing nationwide about workplace safety issues related to coronavirus. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or OSHA, has received more than 6,500 nationwide on a federal level since February.One trial lawyer who works in employment law says she expects the number of complains will keep going up.“Where I really think the numbers are going to escalate is in the retaliation world, where employees bring issues to their employers' attention about failing to implement appropriate administrative or engineering controls or social distancing measures and then they feel that they have suffered an adverse employment action as a result of bringing this to their employer's attention,” said trial lawyer Laura Lawless.OSHA recently updated its guidance on COVID-19-related workplace safety. It now suggests wherever possible and feasible employers should require masks at work.This guidance is something Lawless says everyone was waiting on. She says for states or cities that already had a mask mandate it was easier to enforce at work already, but for states that don't have this mandate, it was harder until now.“At least you can now turn to CDC guidance and OSHA guidance as an employer and say look even if you disagree with us for a political reason or personal expression reason, we're following the guidance from agencies that are meant to look out for your health and safety,” said Lawless.Still, there are concerns OSHA isn't going far enough in other areas. One big criticism among employee protective organizations, workers organizations and unions is that OSHA’s guidance on COVID-19 isn't a regulation and doesn't really have any teeth.Virginia and Oregon are two states looking to fill in the gap with their own worker protections.If you see issues in your workplace, the employment lawyer recommends being reasonable in your approach and not getting too emotional in your reaction. CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. — A Florida family says they were recently targeted by a terrifying kidnapping scam.Katie and Steve Watson live in Coral Springs, Florida and want to warn families about the crime.Katie tells WPTV that she received a call on Monday from a number she didn’t recognize. On the line she heard a whimpering child, then a mysterious man say he had kidnapped Katie’s daughter, Chloe."All of a sudden a man's voice came on the line, and he said, 'Katie I have your daughter. She's in the back of my van,' " Watson told WPTV on Tuesday.Katie said she quickly hung up, feeling in her gut that it was scam. "That's really part of what gave me the chills was somebody calling me by my name," said Watson. "That was unsettling."Katie says she figured it was a scam, but then got a bad feeling when she checked her daughter’s location through her phone's GPS.It initially said her daughter was at Westglades Middle School in Parkland, which Chloe attends. But then the GPS suddenly jumped to another location in Parkland.Upon further investigation, the Watsons found that her daughter was indeed at school, and more importantly, safe."I got chills all over my body and I was like, OK, I know that was a scam but that's like every parent's worst nightmare is to hear your kid has been kidnapped," said Watson.The FBI calls this a virtual kidnapping scam and says it’s evolved over the years and become more sophisticated.In the calls, a crook says he’s kidnapped your loved one and demands money in exchange for their safe return.In the Watsons' case, however, the scam was taken to a frightening new level with the use of a whimpering child on the line.The FBI offers these tips so you don’t become a victim: 1748

  

CORONADO (KGTV): Five trees at Coronado's Spreckels Park may need to be cut down before they fall down.The trees, all of them Sugar Gum Eucalyptus, are either at "High" or "Moderate" risk of failure, according to an arborist's report presented to the City Council last week.One tree, the one deemed the highest risk, is already scheduled for demolition. That will happen Tuesday, starting at 6 am. That tree is in the Northeast corner of the park.The other four will be monitored, including two trees with branches that hang over the children's playground.The city hired West Coast Arborist to study all 95 trees in the park after a pine tree collapsed in September.City Code gives the Department of Public Services the authority to decide which trees should or should not be cut down. According to the rules, trees will be removed if they present, "a condition that is hazardous, are in declining or poor health and the condition cannot be corrected by pruning or any other means."Since 2010, the city has removed nine trees from the park. Five other trees have either fallen or had branches fall off. 1115

"Obviously LinkedIn is a great platform to be on the professional side, but at the same time you really have to be careful with your social media."The experts say the first step in understanding what employers are seeing is to do the search yourself."Google yourself. If someone is going to Google you Google yourself so you know what's out there," said Marques "Lockdown your social media.
