OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) — Considering his hometown's craft beer notoriety, it's actually a surprise skateboarding icon Tony Hawk hasn't had his own beer until now.But now, Hawk can cross that off his list. The skateboarder and Birdhouse Skateboards have teamed with Black Plague Brewing in Oceanside to create the aptly named, "Tony Hawps IPA." The brew is described as smooth beer brewed with Simcoe and Amarillo hops for a piney foundation and dry-hopped with Citra and Centennial hops for an orange aroma with hints of grapefruit."Tony Hawk is such an icon; we wanted to partner with him to create something authentic to connect with skate fans and skateboarders. " says Jordan Hoffart, a pro skateboarder and president of Black Plague Brewing. "The beer needed to be light and crushable after a skate session while also having enough heft to be your go-to when you are ready to party."And now in addition to his legendary career and influential exploits off the half-pipe, Hawk has a beer of his own."Never imagined I’d get to help 'design' a new beer, but my life keeps taking unexpected — and delightful — turns. This beer packs a ton of flavor," Hawk said. The brewery, which took home a gold medal at the 2019 San Diego International Beer Competition for their "Hazy Scandal IPA," hopes to score another win with the special collaboration."Tony Hawps" was released Saturday in the brewery's taproom and at select locations around Southern California. 1466
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Facebook is tightening its policy against QAnon, the baseless conspiracy theory QAnon, which paints President Donald Trump as a secret warrior against a supposed child-trafficking ring run by celebrities and government officials."Starting today, we will remove any Facebook Pages, Groups and Instagram accounts representing QAnon, even if they contain no violent content," a blog post from the company stated on Tuesday. The move comes less than two months after Facebook said it would stop promoting the group and its adherents — but faltered with spotty enforcement. Facebook said since they stepped up these measures in August, they have removed more than 1,500 pages and groups for QAnon containing discussions of potential violence and more than 6,500 pages and groups connected with militarized social movements.Facebook said Tuesday that it will remove Facebook pages, groups and Instagram accounts for “representing QAnon.”"Pages, Groups and Instagram accounts that represent an identified Militarized Social Movement are already prohibited. And we will continue to disable the profiles of admins who manage Pages and Groups removed for violating this policy, as we began doing in August," the company stated. The company said it is starting to enforce the policy as of Tuesday but cautioned that it “will take time and will continue in the coming days and weeks.”"Our Dangerous Organizations Operations team will continue to enforce this policy and proactively detect content for removal instead of relying on user reports. These are specialists who study and respond to new evolutions in violating content from this movement and their internal detection has provided better leads in identifying new evolutions in violating content than sifting through user reports," Facebook said. The company also said they expect renewed attempts to evade detection and they will change their policy and enforcement "as necessary."QAnon began a few years ago as a single conspiracy theory. It has grown in both followers and beliefs since then. The main conspiracy claims dozens of politicians and A-list celebrities work with governments around the world to engage in child sex abuse. Followers also believe there is a “deep state” effort to kill President Donald Trump.Shared conspiracies of the group now include baseless theories on mass shootings and elections. 2392
Officials broke ground on a new national memorial in Washington, D.C. Thursday to honor the millions of Americans who served in World War I, 100 years after the United States got involved in the conflict. The memorial will be built in Pershing Park, a small plaza about a block away from the White House.More than 100,000 Americans died in the war and more than 200,000 others were injured. Now, nearly 100 later, there are no living survivors from World War I."It's a national tragedy that the millions of veterans of the Great War have not been memorialized in our capitol,” said Terry Hamby, commissioner of the United States World War I Centennial Commission."There was so much sacrifice in World War I, it's time for America to build a memorial to the forgotten war." Hamby’s grandfather fought in the war. His uncle died in it.“It means a lot to me, personally, because when you have a memorial and you can go stand in front of it, the emotion burst forth,” Hamby said.In Washington, D.C., other American wars are honored with a national memorial, including World War II, as well as the wars in Korea and Vietnam. The Centennial Commission was established by Congress in 2013 and authorized to create a new national-level memorial in the nation's capital, to honor the men and women who served.Denise Rohan, National Commander of the American Legion, expressed support for the memorial and the veterans it will honor.“Their legacy is one of freedom and heroism. Some paid the ultimate price. The American Legion supports this overdue memorial because the world must forever remember the story of those men and women who liberated a continent. Sadly, it was not the war to end all wars. But, by studying their legacy, tyrants should be on notice that America will not allow evil to go unchallenged,” Rohan said. The goal is to build the memorial by Veterans Day of 2018, which would mark the 100th anniversary of the agreement that brought an end to the war. While this will become the first national monument to World War I in Washington, D.C., there is a National World War I Museum and Memorial in Kansas City, dedicated to honoring those who served in the war. 2218
One of the people inside the Waffle House in Antioch, Tennessee where a gunman opened fire said she played dead in order to stay alive.Kayla Shaw, age 21, shared her story with Scripps station WTVF in Nashville three days after three customers and a restaurant employee were killed. "That was a very traumatic experience, and it changed my life," Shaw said. "I went to a store for the first time yesterday, and I was constantly looking over my shoulder and checking my surroundings. Every little noise scared me."Shaw is from Brownsville, Tennessee and was in Nashville to visit her cousins over the weekend. They were at a different Waffle House that morning, but it was so busy that they placed a to-go order at the Murfreesboro location instead. She was paying for her food near the counter when gunshots erupted."I heard a loud pop on my left side, and after that I felt the glass from the window hit my face and I fell on my right side," she remembered. "I laid there, and my first thought was, 'God please don't let me die inside of a Waffle House.'"The young mother showed the scratches to her face from the glass and the bruise on her arm after hitting it against a stool. She said all she could do at that point was close her eyes and pray."The one time during the altercation I opened my eyes, the only thing I saw was the shooter's genitals because he was naked in the direction I was laying. I question why I got to live, but I feel like my actions by playing dead actually helped me live after I heard the gunshot," she emphasized. "My whole body was motionless."Unbeknownst to her, another restaurant patron wrestled the AR-15 from the gunman and likely saved countless people from dying. She hid behind the counter as soon as she no longer heard gunshots."I actually tripped over someone's dead body and I fell right in front of a young lady who had a majority of her leg blown off. I was in such a state of shock, all I could do was pray over her," added Shaw. "She asked me to give her her phone which was under the guy's body I tripped over."When it was clear to go, Shaw frantically ran to the car and drove off with her cousins. It did not take too long before she spotted the naked gunman on the run."I'm speeding though like we're so shocked, and I see the naked shooter on the side of the road. I was almost paralyzed in that moment. It was so terrifying to leave that place and to actually see him on the side of the road walking, while my cousin was on the phone with dispatchers," she said. That same day she got to meet James Shaw (who she is unrelated to), the man credited and honored by Tennessee lawmakers for stopping the shooter from killing others. She described the moment as emotional as both hugged and cried in each other's arms."I continued to express my gratitude to him," she said. "James, on behalf of me and everybody that walked out of the Waffle House, we thank you so much."Travis Reinking, age 29, was arrested for the shooting following a nearly 35-hour long manhunt. The victims he's accused of killing were Taurean Sanderlin, Joe R. Perez, DeEbony Groves, and Akilah Dasilva. 3205
