Mack Beggs defended his Texas wrestling state title on Saturday by winning the girls Class 6A 110-pound class, to the chagrin of some of those in attendance in Cypress, Texas, the Dallas Morning News reported. Beggs, who was born female, is a transgender male who is only allowed to wrestle against girls. Texas' University Interscholastic League requires that athletes compete in the gender listed on their birth certificate. Beggs told the Dallas Morning News that he has not gone through any gender reassignment surgeries. But that did not stop those in the crowd from heckling Beggs. "They're saying 'steroids.' They're saying, 'Oh, they're beating up on girls,'" he told the Morning News. "It just comes down to technique and who has the most heart. I put too much blood, sweat and tears, I put too much B.S. into this journey that I wanted to come out on top."If Beggs had his choice, he would be competing against boys. "What can I tell people? I can tell the state legislature to change the policy, but I can't tell them to change it right now," Beggs told reporters. "All I can hope for is that they come to their [senses] and realize this is stupid and we should change the policies to conform to other people in my position."Among those who believe it was not a fair bout was Beggs' semifinal opponent Kayla Fitts, who went 52-0 as a senior for Cypress Ranch High School. "The strength definitely was the difference. I didn't anticipate how strong he was," Fitts told the Morning News."I understand if you want to transition your gender," she added. "I understand that totally. But there's a time and a place."Part of the issue has been that Beggs is taking a low dose of testosterone. LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A third person who served on the grand jury that weighed charges against the police officers involved in the raid that led to the death of Breonna Taylor says she felt the investigation was incomplete.In an interview with The Associated Press, the woman said she thought prosecutors wanted only to give the officers involved "a slap on the wrist and close it up.""I felt like there should've been more charges," she told the AP in a phone interview.Taylor was killed on March 13 when officers conducted a narcotics raid on her apartment. Taylor's boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, said he drew a gun when he heard a pounding at the door. He maintains officers did not identify themselves and says he fired at officers when they breached the door, thinking they were intruders.Officers returned fire, killing Taylor. Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron, who investigated the case, said officers were justified in returning fire because they were fired upon first.While officers say they did identify themselves as police and say a witness in the building also testified that they heard police ID themselves, several of Taylor's neighbors are on record as saying they did not know who was at the door.One officer, Brett Hankison, was charged with a crime in connection with the incident. He faces three counts of wanton endangerment for firing his gun toward the apartment building following the raid. No officers faced charges in connection with Taylor's homicide."All of (the officers) went in blindly, you really couldn't see into that lady's apartment as they explained to us, there was just a TV on," the grand juror told the AP of Taylor's apartment. She added that officers "went in there like the O.K. Corral, wanted dead or alive."The grand juror told The Associated Press that she was surprised that they were not presented with the opportunity to consider other charges. She also took issue with Cameron's justification in September that grand jurors had "decided" not to charge the other officers with a crime."I felt like he was trying to throw the blame on somebody else, that he felt like, we as jurors, we weren't going to (speak) out," she told the AP. "He made it feel like it was all our fault, and it wasn't."Typically, grand jury proceedings are held in secret and details of their investigations are held tightly under wraps. But following Cameron's press conference, a judge issued a ruling that allowed grand jurors to speak publicly about the process. She's been working at McDonalds for the past 8 years.During that time, she's risen to become a manager, and she's also gotten help from McDonald's to earn a bachelor's degree from Nevada State in biology with a minor in chemistry.With the additional funding increase, she's planning to go back this fall and pursue a master's degree in public health.Her goal is to become an epidemiologist and work for the Centers for Disease Control.She says she's had to pay her entire way through school working two jobs, and the scholarship from McDonald's helped her get through.Right now, UNLV costs around ,100 a semester for state residents, and the College of Southern Nevada is around ,400, plus other costs like books and transportation.McDonald's isn't alone though. Working for several other large companies can also help you get assistance with tuition. Best Buy, Walmart, Verizon, and Bank of America all offer similar types of help.  1333
