Hurricane Teddy strengthened into a major hurricane Thursday morning, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC). However, the agency is currently predicting that the storm will not have a major impact on the U.S.According to an 11 a.m. ET update, Teddy strengthed into a Category 3 storm on Thursday with maximum sustained winds of 120 mph. The storm is currently churning in the central Atlantic and is expected to dissipate before reaching the Caribbean or the United States.However, the storm may have an impact on the island of Bermuda. The storm may approach the island with hurricane-force by late Sunday evening or early Monday morning, and bring storm surge and rain along with it.Earlier this week, Hurricane Paulette passed directly over Bermuda. According to the Weather.com, the entire island was engulfed by the hurricane eye of Paulette as it passed over the territory. Luckily, there was no serious damage or injuries reported in the country.Teddy is just the latest major hurricane produced by an extremely active 2020 hurricane season. Tropical Storm Vicky also formed on Thursday, making it the 20th named storm of the year. HUNTINGTON BEACH (CNS) - A 60-year-old Huntington Beach woman who went missing while walking her dog in the Bristlecone Pine Forest in Inyo County was found alive Monday on the fourth day of an intensive search.Inyo County sheriff's officials announced shortly after 2 p.m. that Sheryl Powell had been found near the Montenegro Springs area, near the area where her dog had been found earlier in the day.``Searchers describe her as resilient and strong but exhausted after being lost in an extremely remove area above Big Pine,'' according to the sheriff's office.She was being taken to a hospital to be checked out. Powell was reported missing by her husband at about 2 p.m. Friday, Inyo County sheriff's officials said.Powell's husband told deputies they had just arrived at a campsite and she took their 5-pound, black-and-white dog for a walk while he was parking their Jeep. When he got out of the vehicle, she was nowhere to be found, officials said.Powell's husband told deputies he searched for almost an hour before contacting authorities, officials said.A California Highway Patrol helicopter with a thermal imaging device flew over the area and the Inyo County sheriff Search and Rescue team began searching immediately, sheriff's officials said.The air and ground search continued over the weekend, officials said. 1334

A new program is hoping to bring some relief, but some worry it'll make roads less safe.The program trains teenagers to drive cross country. Elijah Amos is one of the teens involved with the program and working towards getting his commercial driver’s license.“I think we really did it for me is driving,” Amos says. “Because I really like driving and I feel like you get paid a decent amount of money. Just to drive.”But since he's 18, he won't be able to drive from state to state. He'll have to wait until he's 21. However, a new government pilot program will soon allow some drivers as young as 18 to drive cross country.“I feel like it would open up more job opportunities,” Amos says. “And maybe it opened up the eyes to some of the younger people maybe like actually try and do it.”The program would be available to some members of the National Guard and others with military experience. But in March, House Republicans introduced a bill to lower the commercial driving age to 18 for anyone driving state to state. Their goal? To fight a nation-wide truck driving shortage.Quincy Jones, who directs Sage Truck Driving School, says it's been challenging to attract driving students. He says ultimately, consumers pay the price.“Shipping costs get passed down the consumer,” Jones says. “So if there's a shortage, those aren't getting picked up as frequently. And so who pays them? We do. We all pay. Consumers do."The American Trucking Associations says the shortage is expected to hit 63,000 this year. But with motor vehicle drivers aged 16 to 19 being nearly three times more likely than people over 20 to fatally crash, not everyone believes teen drivers are the solution to the problem.“Younger people have less experience driving for all types of vehicles,” says Norita Taylor, with the Owner Operators Independent Drivers Association. “And so the crash rates are higher for younger people, and so we think it would be a dangerous idea.”Sponsors say the bill would require teens complete at least 240 hours driving supervised by a veteran driver.  2240
