SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A foot pursuit between police and a suspect ended in an officer-involved shooting in the Logan Heights neighborhood Monday.An officer was trying to contact a 30-year-old Hispanic male, later identified as Enrique Aguilar, at about 3:20 p.m. over what he believed to be a narcotics violation, according to San Diego Police Capt. Tom Underwood. Aguilar fled, prompting a foot pursuit in the area of 3400 National Avenue, police say.Police said during the foot pursuit, Aguilar revealed a handgun.VIDEO: Video captures officer-involved shooting in Logan HeightsPAST OIS INCIDENTS: DA releases body cam footage, reviews several officer-involved shootingsOfficers say they ordered Aguilar to drop his weapon. Police said at one point, Aguilar pointed the handgun at officers, prompting an exchange of gunfire.Aguilar was struck at least once. He suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.Neither officer, one a 24-year veteran and the other a 2-year veteran, was injured in the shooting. Underwood added there was another male suspect they were searching for connected to the initial narcotics violation.Both directions of the 3200-3500 blocks of National Ave. have been closed to traffic as officers investigate. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A California woman is accusing a San Diego CEO of gaining her trust and then decimating her entire life's savings. The woman, Marieme Bouguerba, is being represented by San Diego attorney Charles Field, a partner with Sanford Heisler Sharp, LLP "She's devastated. You have a single mother who lives with her parents, and she's trying to make things go and to have her entire life savings decimated like this is a major setback for her - both financially and emotionally," said Field.The lawsuit claims Mark Bernier trolls dating websites for vulnerable, high net worth women as part of his investment scams. It goes on to say he advertises himself as a licensed investment professional, attempts to build trust and confidence, and then aggressively seeks to separate the women from their money through purported investments.Bernier is listed as CEO for San Diego-based venture capital firm, VentureMoney Management Co. Field says his client met Bernier on the dating website MillionaireMatch.com, a site designed to help successful people find love. Field says Bernier has exchanged over 29,000 messages with over 3,000 women through the Millionaire Match website, to sell them worthless securities. "Well I think that's the mark of a good salesman, is that a good salesman can make a good pitch, can make a convincing pitch, and when it's backed by a legitimate looking website that has very prominent people on there, all that combined led her to believe that this was reputable," said Field.Field says Bernier scammed his client out of 0,000. While they received 0,000 back during mediation, Field says they are not being told where the rest of the money is."It seems reputable, when you look at the website it seems like he's [Bernier] trying to do good things, that's what it appears. But like I said, we asked where the money is, we asked what it was invested in, where it went, and we have not gotten any answers," said Field. Their lawsuit accuses Bernier of not even having a license to sell securities or give investment advice in California. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A group of good Samaritans is receiving praise after knocking down a brush fire in Carmel Valley on Tuesday afternoon.After spending all day on top of a roof, Ubaldo Lopez and his team at Palomar Solar & Roofing were on their way back to the office."We were going down the hill, and it started to smell," Lopez said. "At first, I thought somebody crashed, but then I saw the fire."Many people slowed down on Carmel Valley Road as the flames crept closer. Others called 911 for help. But before the firefighters arrived, Lopez and his team pulled over and jumped into action."I got the extinguisher and a couple of my buddies here, they got the shovels and started putting dirt on it," Lopez pointed at his team. Right beside him attacking the growing flames were his son Damien and co-workers, Cirinio Rios and Miguel Esteban.Although the men are not trained firefighters, they are familiar with fire. They work on what is called "torch down roofing," a process where a flame is used to melt a rubbery membrane on a flat roof to make it waterproof. So they know the dangers of what could happen if the winds picked up."The weather was crazy and the red flag [warning]," Lopez said. "The fire department, they've been so busy, so you know, that could have gone out of hand."With the help of a few other good Samaritans, the team stopped the fire from spreading. Minutes later, they drove off, without knowing they would be praised for their swift actions all over social media."Omg that would have been really tragic had it spread," one person wrote on Facebook."Wow. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A former employee of the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System is suing the agency for retaliation after he said he stood up for a co-worker.Ivan Augustino moved to the United States from Sudan and still volunteers with projects for his native country. He started working for MTS in 2015.“It was pretty good,” Augustino said.Augustino worked as a Senior Applications Developer.“I am the main guy that deals with the complicated back end computer codes,” Augustino said.In 2017, he said he made a move that changed everything. It started with a co-worker.“One morning, she walked into my office pretty much in tears,” Augustino said.He said that a co-worker confided to him the Chief Information Officer discriminated against her when she asked about a promotion. The lawsuit filed against MTS claims the CIO told Augustino’s co-worker she was “not qualified for the job because of her age, her marriage and family planning status, and her relationship to an active duty military service member.”“The other question she also asked was, how old are you? You seem like you are at an age where you would be having kids,” Augustino said. It was a shocking conversation.“You know, that is wrong,” Augustino said.After his co-worker told him what happened, he first asked advice from another co-worker who then took it to human resources. Augustino said his co-worker did not want to bring the complaint to HR.“The last thing that anyone within the IT department wants is to take an issue to HR because once you report it to HR, there is going to be retaliation,” Augustino said.And that’s what happened, according to the former MTS employee. Initially, he was concerned how MTS investigated the complaint.“I was expecting someone to at least come and talk to me, but no one spoke to me,” Augustino said.He said retaliation began by the CIO and his direct supervisor.“The way they treated me just changed,” Augustino said.He claimed management suggested they would give him recommendations if he found another job. On another occasion, Augustino said they “mocked [his] English as a second language” in an email. On top of that, he said 98 hours of paid time off promised to him for working overtime on a big project was revoked, along with a promised promotion.“Coming from where I come from, I just felt like I did not even know what to do,” Augustino said.Feeling “degraded” and “intimidated”, he submitted a letter of resignation. However, he said he gave management an option.“If you can address this issue and the executive team and bring what I view as retaliation to a stop, I will pull my resignation,” Augustino said. Instead, he said he was fired and walked out of the building by security. His termination came a little over a month after he voiced his concerns about his female co-worker.A spokesperson for MTS told Team 10: “There is absolutely no validity to any of Mr. Augustino’s claims.”When asked if he would defend his co-worker again, Augustino said “absolutely.”Attorneys Zachary Schumacher and Daniel Goularte represent Augustino."This is absolutely a David versus Goliath situation," Schumacher said.Schumacher said fear is why people don't speak up."I like to compare it to battered wives syndrome, where you essentially have this person or in this case this entity who has this major power and balance who is doing all sorts of awful things and figuratively at least, battering its employees and yet they don't leave.
