SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to send a letter to Gov. Gavin Newsom requesting they be allowed to reopen the local economy.The board voted 4-1, with Supervisor Nathan Fletcher voting "no," to take further steps into reopening amid the coronavirus pandemic. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The family of the man killed on India Street on this month has identified him as David Hill. The 38-year-old was a pathology resident at Balboa Naval Hospital. In the Navy since 2004, Hill had reached the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He was an avid traveler, having visited dozens of countries. His mother, Carol Hill, said he had a goal of running a marathon on every continent. Hill had already checked off the hardest, Antarctica, though he had to get creative. “He did the 26 miles on the ship’s treadmill to fill that square!” said Hill's mother. He had made it a few blocks from his apartment when he was struck by the driver of a minivan on India Street near Olive and Palm. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Surveillance footage captured a man attacking a gas station customer in Kearny Mesa before fleeing.A 54-year-old man was paying for his coffee at the Mobil station at 8380 Clairemont Mesa Blvd. on Saturday just after 3 p.m., when the suspect began speaking to the man. Police said the suspect was not making any sense when he was speaking to the victim.Then for no reason, the man pulled a small wooden bat from a tool bag and began to hit the victim on the back of his head. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The California Tower at San Diego’s Museum of Man has finally reopened following a months-long upgrade. The tower closed on February 18 of 2019 for a seismic retrofit to protect against earthquakes. The upgrade was done using funds from the City of San Diego and FEMA. It cost ,748,550. "We thank the City of San Diego for their partnership and investment in preserving the California Tower–one of the City’s most iconic cultural landmarks.
