In a meeting that lasted less than 60 seconds, a Georgia board of elections voted down a plan Friday to close seven of a majority-black county's nine polling places ahead of November's midterm elections.Critics had said the plan to consolidate polling places in Randolph County, Georgia, was a brazen attempt to suppress the black vote in Georgia's governor race, which pits former Georgia House minority leader Stacey Abrams, who is black, against Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp, who is white. The vote came amid widespread national criticism and days after the county terminated its contract with Mike Malone, the consultant who made the recommendation. Malone had argued that closing the polling stations would save the county money, and that some of the sites suggested for closure did not comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. 856

How would you like to make an extra ,000 a week doing easy tasks you already know how to do? Smartphone applications are making things easy for those looking to make money at home.If you love dogs, ‘Wag’ is for you. The app is like Uber for dog walkers. Rocio Irun uses the ‘Wag’ app on her free time walking other people’s dogs.“I love dogs this app was an opportunity for me to make some extra income on the side and spend time with puppies,” Irun said. It’s easy to sign up for the app. Irun said, it’s competitive once you become a walker.“It’s hard because there are a lot of people dog walking, so you will have to compete against those other people and be really fast at accepting a dog walk," Irun said. If walking dogs isn’t your thing, there are other task apps to try. ‘Gigwalk’ will connect you with nearby businesses looking for extra help. ‘IPoll’ will pay you to take surveys. ‘Loot’ will have you taking pictures of your favorite brands and post them all over social media. Then there is ‘Task Rabbit.’ The app will allow you to sign up for a wide range of jobs like, putting together a dresser, yard work, cleaning or mounting a piece of art on a wall for someone. All of these apps notify you when a potential job opens up near by. You then select the one you want. Then, confirm the details with your client. After that, you simply show up and do the task to get paid.  1405

In an interview with Fox News on Thursday, Donald Trump Jr. stated he "went through the CDC data" and claimed the number of deaths caused by COVID was declining to "almost nothing.""Why aren't they talking about deaths? Oh, oh, because the number is almost nothing. Because we've gotten control of this thing. We understand how it works," Trump Jr. said on “The Ingraham Angle.”Per Johns Hopkins, 90,728 new cases were reported in the U.S., and at least 1,004 Americans died on Thursday.According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, their recent data is “provisional" and often behind data gathered by counties and other sources. The CDC also updated its forecast of virus deaths stating "an uncertain trend in new COVID-19 deaths reported over the next four weeks and predicts that 3,900 to 10,000 new deaths will likely be reported during the week ending November 21, 2020.” 898

If California electric utility PG&E is responsible for California's wildfires, it may not be able to afford the payouts it would owe.PG&E disclosed in a regulatory filing Tuesday that it "experienced an outage" on a transmission line in Butte County at 6:15 a.m. on November 8 -- just 15 minutes before the Camp Fire that has so far claimed 48 lives broke out.PG&E said the cause of the fire is still under investigation. But if its equipment is found to be responsible for it, PG&E "could be subject to significant liability in excess of insurance coverage" and that this could have "a material impact" on its financial results. The utility renewed its liability insurance coverage for wildfire events for an amount of approximately .4 billion that covers the period from August 1, 2018 through July 31, 2019, the company said in the SEC filing. But the fire is far from being under control, which means more damage is likely. PG&E said in the filing that the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection estimates the fire won't be fully contained until November 30.The damages alone could cost up to .8 billion. according to a report from Moody's this week.PG&E may not have enough to cover the cost that, let alone any legal fees or fines it might have to pay. The utility said in its filing that it currently has .46 billion in cash after borrowing from an existing revolving credit line.Shares of PG&E (PCG) plunged more than 30% Wednesday following this disclosure and were briefly halted for volatility. The stock has now fallen by half since the Camp Fire began. The utility could need another bailout from the state of California if it's found to be liable for the Camp Fire.Governor Jerry Brown signed a bill in September that lets PG&E issue bonds backed by surcharges from the utility's customers. Those bonds would help pay for damages tied to deadly California wildfires in October 2017 caused by faulty PG&E equipment. The bill allows for the possibility that utilities could issue similar bonds for future fires, but that is not guaranteed.PG&E already faces one lawsuit on behalf of victims of the Camp Fire.A group of law firms that has dubbed itself the Northern California Fire Lawyers filed a suit Tuesday on behalf of Camp Fire survivors. The firms allege in the suit that "PG&E was negligent in failing to maintain its infrastructure and properly inspect and manage its power transmission lines." 2507

In a recent tweet, Elon Musk said his Hyperloop tunnel for rapid transportation is nearly complete. The high-speed tunnel he is building is expected to open Dec.10, according to Musk's Twitter page. It will run under Hawthone, California, near Los Angeles, and transport people between Dodger Stadium and nearly metro stations in less than 4 minutes, according to foxbusiness.com.Musk is making no guarantees about the work his tunneling company, called Boring Company, is doing. On the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, he said it started as a joke because he hates Los Angeles traffic so much, but then he decided to realize the idea.Musk doesn't see his version of Hyperloop involving stations such as current commuter rails have. His will have small stations the size of parking spaces and involve van-like vehicles as part of the transport. 863
