MACAO, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- The celebration gathering marking the10th anniversary of Macao's return to the motherland and the inauguration of the third-term government of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) were held here Sunday.     President Hu Jintao, who is also general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party (CPC) of China and chairman of the Central Military Commission, attended the ceremony, where Macao SAR Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On and principal officials of the SAR government were sworn in. BEIJING, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping on Friday called for continued efforts to further study and practice the Scientific Outlook on Development.     Xi made the remarks at a meeting on further studying and practicing the Scientific Outlook on Development, which emphasizes the well-being of people and comprehensive, coordinated and sustainable development.     The CPC launched an 18-month campaign to study and implement the outlook in September last year.     The campaign had so far yielded positive results, Xi said.     The Vice President urged relevant authorities to focus on improving social harmony and stability as well as party building at grassroots levels.     They should also focus on speeding up the transformation of the country's economic development mode, and should make meticulous plans for next year's work, in order to push forward reforms and development and maintain stability, he said.

PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang on Tuesday discussed bilateral relations and other issues of common concern with Papua New Guinean Prime Minister Michael Thomas Somare. Li said Papua New Guinea, as the largest developing country in the South Pacific, has great influence over regional issues.     He said China attaches great importance to bilateral ties with the Pacific island nation, which China has always regarded as a reliable friend and partner.     In recent years, Li said, the two countries have conducted frequent high-level exchanges, deepened political mutual trust, broadened exchanges and cooperation in an extensive number of sectors. Both countries, he said, should broaden their areas of cooperation to agriculture, manufacturing and high-tech, apart from energy and resources.     Somare said Papua New Guinea would like to strengthen cooperation with China in trade, investment, agriculture, infrastructure, manufacturing, education and healthcare.     He also said the preferential loans China has provided to Pacific island nations over the past three years have greatly helped the overall economic and social development of these nations.     Li arrived here on Tuesday on an official visit to Papua New Guinea, the last leg of his three-nation tour. LIMA, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin arrived in Lima on Sunday, kicking off his official good-will visit to this South American country.     Jia, chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, delivered a written speech upon his arrival at the airport of the Peruvian capital. BEIJING, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao encouraged HIV/AIDS sufferers to live on with hope and confidence during his visit to a Beijing hospital on the World AIDS Day, which falls on Tuesday. At the Beijing Home of Red Ribbon in Ditan Hospital, Wen and Vice Premier Li Keqiang visited two AIDS patients and medical volunteers, experts.     Since China reported its first AIDS case in 1985, the world's most populous nation had recorded 319,877 HIV/AIDS cases and 49,845 deaths by October, according to the Ministry of Health.
