EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) – The superintendent of an El Cajon senior living apartment complex says police told him they have arrested a suspect in a series of robberies that have taken place on the sidewalk in front of the building. The arrest comes less than 24 hours after a 10News story aired surveillance video showing two of the muggings outside the Salvation Army apartments on South Anza Street."I actually jumped up and down with excitement," said super Alex Harmon, describing his reaction to the news. He says the surveillance video was key evidence. Harmon says there have been at least five incidents between October 15 and December 24. In one instance, the thief and a possible accomplice are seen carefully observing resident, May Kanao, while passing her on the street. The thief then turned and followed Kanao around the corner. He attempted to rip the gold chain off her neck, coming away with the gold cross which had been attached. The thief is then seen running back down South Anza St. In the other incident, which took place in October, the thief is seen engaging a 97-year-old resident who uses a walker in conversation, convincing her to open her bag. He quickly rifled through it, grabbed her wallet, and walked away.10News contacted the El Cajon Police Department. A spokesperson said the investigation is ongoing and that the department was not ready to release any information. 1411

Editor's note: An earlier version of this story referred to the agency Customs and Border Protection as Customs and Border Patrol. Scripps regrets the error.Customs and Border Protection has confirmed that the agency is among those who sent officers and agents to Portland, Oregon as part of President Donald Trump's attempts to quell protests in the city.In an email, a CBP spokesperson confirmed that the department's agents and officers were among Homeland Security personnel sent to Portland. The spokesperson said that the agents were sent in support of an executive order signed by Trump aimed at protecting federal monuments and statues. The agents are also supporting the "Protecting American Communities Task Force," which was formed by Acting Homeland Security Sec. Chad Wolf. According to the DHS website, the task force was formed in response to Trump's executive order.Local media reports emerged last week that federal agents had arrived in Portland and began arresting those who have been taking part in weeks-long protests against police brutality and systemic racism. While protesters have defaced buildings with graffiti, they've mostly remained peaceful.Video shared on social media last week showed the agents, dressed in camouflage riot gear without agency identification, detaining protesters and placing them in unmarked vans. Local media outlets have since confirmed those reports.Protests in Portland have intensified since federal agents have arrived. Portland Police confirmed Monday that federal agents used tear gas to disperse a crowd of protesters.During a press conference Tuesday, Wolf told reporters that his agents were targeting "violent" criminals, The Los Angeles Times said. But local officials have said they would like those agents to leave.Oregon Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum filed a lawsuit on Friday seeking to block detentions by federal agents without probable cause.Oregon's Democratic governor Kate Brown has also called for their removal."The Trump administration is not interested in problem-solving," she tweeted Tuesday. "The Trump administration is not interested in public safety. They are interested in political theater." 2188

Disneyland Park has shut down two cooling towers at its park in Southern California following an outbreak of Legionnaires' disease.Orange County health officials said nine people who visited the Anaheim theme park in September developed the disease. An additional three people who had been to Anaheim but not Disneyland got sick too, said Jessica Good, a spokeswoman for the Orange County Health Care Agency. One patient, who had not visited the park and had additional health issues, died, she said. The 12 patients are between ages 52 and 94, and 10 were hospitalized, she said.CNN has reached out to Disneyland for comment but has not heard back."To date, no additional Legionella cases have been identified with potential exposure in Anaheim after September," Good said. "There is no known ongoing risk associated with this outbreak."Legionnaires disease is a severe form of pneumonia caused by Legionella bacteria, sometimes found in water systems. It is typically contracted by breathing mist from the water that contains it. The source of the mist can be air conditioning units in large facilities, showers or hot tubs. Legionnaires' disease is not contagious between humans.County health officials identified Disneyland Park as a common location of eight of the cases last month, and have been working to identify potential sources, Good said.Disneyland Park informed health officials this month that elevated levels of Legionella had been identified in two of its 18 towers, which were then treated and disinfected.Disneyland took the towers out of service on November 1 and told the health agency it had performed additional disinfecting and testing. It brought the towers back into service November 5, but two days later, they were taken out of service again, she said.Health officials subsequently issued an order that the towers remain shut down until they are verified to be free from contamination. The results of the tests will not be known for about two weeks. 1982

DURANGO, Colo. – The young bear that was burned in the East Canyon Fire in June was released back into the wild this week not far from where it was found, Colorado Parks and Wildlife said. The 2-year-old bear had been recovering at CPW’s Frisco Creek rehab facility in Del Norte from burns he suffered during the fire. CPW said the bear weighed only 43 pounds when he was first captured in the fire. But after undergoing salve treatment on his paws, and having his bandages changed 16 times over the course of a month, he recovered and was moved from a pen with concrete floors to one with trees and hiding spaces mid-July, where he spent the past monthMichael Sirochman, the veterinary technician and manager at Frisco Creek, said the bear was 110 pounds and had seen its paws toughen up before he was released Monday.“He’s now about the weight he should be for a two-year-old bear and is in good shape for going into the fall,” Sirochman said.CPW officers originally found the bear on June 16 walking near a pond on the east side of the East Canyon Fire, which burned in June outside of Durango. Officials said the bear was released not far from that location on Monday.CPW said the bear originally hesitated for a moment as it looked at and smelled its new surroundings but then jumped from a CPW truck and ran into the forest. No tracking devices were placed on the bear, which officials said is expected to be fine on its own.“Now he’s got food, he’s got water, he’s got everything he needs,” said Wildlife Officer Steve McClung, “And I hope I never see him again.”This story originally reported by Blair Miller on TheDenverChannel.com. 1647

During an interview on Fox News on Tuesday, President Donald Trump called on Attorney General William Barr to open a corruption investigation into Joe Biden's alleged ties to Ukraine based on information contained in emails reportedly taken from a laptop that may or may not have belonged to Biden's son."We've got to get the Attorney General to act. He's got to act and he's got to act fast. He's got to appoint someone," Trump said Tuesday during an interview on Fox & Friends. "This is major corruption, and this has to be known about before the election."Trump was referring to a report first published in the New York Post last week that was based on emails allegedly recovered from a laptop left at a Delaware computer repair shop. The Post claimed the emails were taken from a laptop belonging to Biden's son, Hunter, and showed that the younger Biden was contacted by the adviser to the board of a Ukrainian energy company, Burisma. In the emails, allegedly, the Ukrainian official thanked Hunter Biden for giving him an opportunity to meet his father. Some Republicans have seized on the story, calling it a "smoking gun." They claim that such a meeting would be a conflict of interest, given Joe Biden's political influence and Hunter Biden's position on Burisma's board. However, the Post's story left several questions about the authenticity of the emails unanswered. The owner of the repair shop, where the laptop was recovered, was unable to identify the computer's owner. The shop owner did say a Beau Biden Foundation sticker was attached to the computer. There's also no evidence that Hunter Biden responded to the email from the Ukranian energy advisor. The Biden campaign says the former Vice President's schedule shows no meetings with that advisor. Finally, the Post said it obtained materials and information for the story from Rudy Giuliani, one of Trump's personal lawyers.Citing sources, The New York Times reported Monday that one of the Post journalists who wrote the story asked that his name not be attached to the article "because he had concerns over the article's credibility."Despite Trump's claim that the emails show Joe Biden has an inclination to use his political office for personal enrichment, Trump and his family have an extensive history of dubious business practices. The New York Times reports that Trump has leveraged the office of the presidency to drive business to his resorts and hotels.Trump's call to action to Barr is just his latest call for the neutral agency to delve into cases that would be politically advantageous to the president. Earlier this month, Trump said he was "disappointed" in Barr for his inaction on voter fraud investigations and his inability to recover emails deleted by Hillary Clinton prior to the 2016 election.Weeks ago, 1,600 former Department of Justice lawyers signed an open letter that claimed Barr was abusing the power of his office to help Trump win reelection. 2959
