SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Gas and Electric customers won’t have to pay millions in wildfire costs tied to the company, according to a new U.S. Supreme Court ruling. The court Monday rejected the utility’s appeal to pass 9 million on to rate-payers. The costs are related to the deadly 2007 wildfires that tore through San Diego County. Investigators say SDG&E equipment sparked the Witch Guejito and Race Fires. The company has denied the claims and says the fires were caused by other factors. The ruling comes roughly a week after SDG&E asked the Public Utilities Commission to raise the bare minimum bill from to per month. The utility claims the change is needed to accurately reflect the costs of keeping low-use customers to the grid. The move would affect anyone whose bill is less than per month. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police are searching for the driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run in Mountain View last month.Police say 81-year-old Ruben Mendez was walking in a crosswalk at the intersection of South 45th St. and Logan Ave. on June 30 just before 7:30 p.m. An unknown, silver-colored vehicle was turning left onto Logan Ave. when it collided with Mendez. The vehicle then headed eastbound in the 4700 block of Logan Ave., police say.The vehicle did not stop to check on Mendez before fleeing the scene, police added.Mendez sustained major injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. On July 1, he died of his injuries.Investigators are asking anyone with information on the crash or suspected vehicle involved to call SDPD’s Traffic Division at 858-495-7807 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 818

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego County has seen possible early signs of a COVID-19 resurgence, after four community outbreaks were reported Friday.Dr. Wilma Wooten, the county's public health officer, said the county has recorded four community coronavirus outbreaks in the last seven days.One of the newly reported outbreaks included an unnamed restaurant. That outbreak remains under investigation, Wooten added."We had only about three community outbreaks in the month of May," Wooten said.Of the county's 56 active outbreaks, 13 are in the community setting, which have included office buildings, churches, parties, and "unauthorized weddings" in the past.One of San Diego County's 13 triggers which could cause the county to reverse loosened restrictions includes seven community outbreaks in a week. Wooten said Friday that the county is currently "green" on all triggers.County officials encouraged San Diegans to continue wearing facial coverings when around other non-household members, wash their hands regularly, and stay home if they are feeling sick. 1068

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Rep. Susan Davis of the 53rd Congressional District won’t seek re-election in 2020, the Congresswoman announced Wednesday. Davis was first elected to Congress in 2000. “I have struggled to make this very difficult decision. I will not seek another term in Congress. My decision today represents a desire to live and work ‘at home’ in San Diego,” she said. Davis is currently the second highest-ranking Democrat on both the House Education and Labor Committee and the House Armed Service Committee. Among measures recently supported by Davis is the Green New Deal, introduced by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. She also helped spearhead the repeal of the “don’t ask, don’t tell,” a Clinton-era policy which allowed LGTBQ people to serve in the military only if they remained in the closet.“It makes us a better military, a better country, and I was very happy to be a part of that,” said Davis.So far, only two other candidates have officially entered the race. Jose Caballero, a Navy veteran, filed earlier this year and has raised ,900 as of June.Joaquín Vázquez, the son of undocumented immigrants, has also filed to run, but has not submitted any fundraising documents yet to the FEC.Both are Democrats with no previous experience as elected officials.In 2018, Davis faced off against Republican challenger, Morgan Murtaugh, beating her by a nearly 40% margin. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego County was officially added to California's "monitoring list" as the number of coronavirus cases across the state increases, and Gov. Gavin Newsom said he expected local health officials to comply with specific orders that include the closure of indoor dining spaces.As of Monday afternoon, San Diego County joined five other counties on the monitoring list. The other counties added to the list: Colusa, Madera, Marin, Merced, and Monterey.Of the state’s 58 counties, 23 of them are on the state’s list.Ahead of the Fourth of July weekend, Newsom ordered counties that have been on the list for at least three days to shutter indoor operations at businesses such as restaurants, wineries, movie theaters, zoos, museums and cardrooms.In a tweet on his Twitter account, Newsom said:"CA is now asking Colusa, Madera, Marin, Merced, Monterey & San Diego to close indoor operations for:-Restaurants-Wineries-Movie theaters-Zoos, museums-CardroomsBars must close ALL operations."During his Monday news conference, Newsom said he was awaiting an order from local health officials in each of the newly-added counties to issue an order enacting the measures, which are expected to remain in effect for at least three weeks.Counties on the list were also ordered to close all of its bars, a move San Diego County had already taken ahead of the holiday weekend.
