A Sandusky, Ohio, man was taken to a hospital Wednesday after crashing a car into a bus shelter when he spotted a spider in his car.The 21-year-old man was driving a 2003 Cadillac CTS when he saw the bug, hit a curb and drove through a bus stop shelter on the side of the road, Sandusky police said. The man reentered the road and stopped shortly thereafter.The man was taken to Firelands Regional Medical Center with minor injuries, authorities said. Activists with the environmental organization Greenpeace are currently hanging from a bridge from Houston in an attempt to block a shipping channel known for transporting oil.According to KHOU-TV, a portion of the Houston Ship Channel was blocked on Thursday as activists hung from the Fred Hartman Bridge. A north Texas teen is honoring his friend, an Army soldier, with a tribute that can be seen from above.Cameron James, 17, of Haslet, Texas, mowed a giant American flag into the front lawn of his family's home Monday. It was in honor of his friend, Army Pfc. Across the country, more states are legalizing marijuana.Now, more people are opening up about getting high and getting behind the wheel.“I feel more focused than when I’m sober,” Caleb Occelin said of driving while under the influence of marijuana. “It eases my mind. It makes me focus on everything.”Others, however, say they know better than to mix cars and cannabis. “Do not smoke weed and drive,” said marijuana smoker Sam Lee. “We all know we can barely think straight instead of drive.”Now, a team of medical professionals is studying the dangers of smoking and driving.“There’s been increasing concern about the potential of public health impacts of people using cannabis while they drive or shortly after,” said Dr. Michael Kosnett of the University of Colorado Denver.Kosnett is teaming up with Rocky Mountain Poison and Drug Safety on a study about the effects of cannabis while operating a motor vehicle.This study tests three focus groups: daily smokers, occasional smokers and non-smokers as they go through tests measuring reaction times, hand-eye coordination and short-term memory.More than a year into the study, the team has hit an unexpected road block: they can’t seem to find occasional smokers.“As for people who just used it occasionally, like on a weekly basis, that was probably less than one-fourth of the people,” Kosnett said.This study is still in process.
