President-elect Joe Biden announced on Wednesday his first significant staff decision since being projected as the winner of last week’s presidential election.Biden chose longtime aide Ron Klain to be the White House chief of staff come January. According to the Biden campaign, Klain served as a senior adviser to the Biden for President campaign. Klain was previously Biden’s chief of staff as vice president.Klain also took on a number of roles within the Democratic administrations, including serving as the White House Ebola response coordinator in 2014 and 2015 under President Barack Obama.Previously, Klain was a key figure in the Clinton administration, serving as Vice President Al Gore’s chief of staff and a counselor to Attorney General Janet Reno.“Ron has been invaluable to me over the many years that we have worked together, including as we rescued the American economy from one of the worst downturns in our history in 2009 and later overcame a daunting public health emergency in 2014,” Biden said in a statement. “His deep, varied experience and capacity to work with people all across the political spectrum is precisely what I need in a White House chief of staff as we confront this moment of crisis and bring our country together again.”Biden is expected to begin announcing members of his cabinet in the coming weeks. 1350

President Trump has signed the Music Modernization Act into law, a bill that will bring sweeping changes to the way music is licensed and songwriters are paid.Supporters say the Music Modernization Act, championed by Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tennessee), will ensure that songwriters get paid fairly for their work in the streaming age.  A key aspect of the legislation is the creation of a new independent entity that will license songs to companies that play music online. The group will then pay songwriters, while digital streaming services, like Spotify or Pandora, can ask for a blanket license. This is the first overhaul to music copyright law in decades. The law will also make sure artists who made music prior to 1972 are paid.Recording artists didn't have any copyright rights in their works until 1972. Kanye West, Kid Rock and John Rich are among artists expected to attend Thursday's ceremony at the White House.   965

I am, I'm a nationalist, OK?”The president says he used the word because he's proud of our country, but some say the word is a signal to white nationalists and points back to the president's comments after the Nazi rally in Charlottesville last year.“He's allowing white nationalist to feel comforted in those words,” says Andre Perry, with the Brookings Institution. “It's clear he's using a divisive rhetoric to rally his base, and that rhetoric is racist.”But for the past year, Candace Owens with the conservative, non-profit organization Turning Point USA, has defended Trump.“No matter what he says, they spin it,” Owens says. “No matter how he says it, they spin it. You saw that with [the] Charlottesville thing.
